I was only thinking the other day, gawed knows why, that he hasn't shown his face on here lately. Hope the old s*d is OK.

I am pleased to report that 'the old s*d', as Stephen called him, is in fine fettle. Had a lovely couple of ours with him and his wife today --- most enjoyable meet up over a coffee.

Thank you for your kind good wishes fellow seasalts. Back in Cowes where I was born seventyharumph years ago for a short holiday. We really enjoyed coffee and some laughs with Kenmo. I like it when you meet people and get on well immediately.

You haven't seen much of me (us) largely because Sue has had the big C. Happily a major operation and some gruelling chemo and Sue is almost back to normal, albeit missing a few 'bits'. Now to begin persuading her to do another cruise before P&O abandon traditional cruising altogether in favour of Butlins at sea. Or should that be Coney Island at sea?

Thank you all once again.

Over 5 months late in thanking you all once more for your kind wishes. The truth is that I have been a bit busy with two painting commissions and looking after Sue. Sue is still suffering side effects from the chemotherapy drugs Raltitrexed and Oxaliplatin. This is a sudden onset of fatigue, and various forms of peripheral neuropathy. She has very good days, and then inexplicably very bad ones with shaking and terrible tiredness in her legs. She seems to improve and then something sets her back again. MacMillan indicate that this could go on for three years, so if anyone else has experience of those chemo drugs we would be interested. On the plus side she had a CT scan in August which pronounced her clear of cancer, and a colonoscopy about ten days ago where they removed some tissue but said they would be planning another for3 years, we await the histology from that but the longer it goes on the more likely it is that the results will be good.

After 56 years of marriage you know all the irritating properties of your better half, but if there is one thing which this has taught me, it is that they really amount to nothing when compared to the benefits of real friendship, sense of humour, and that knowledge that life would be immeasurably meaningless without her.
