Live from Norwich, The 2013 Peregrines
From the Peregrin nest platform 230 feet above the streets of Norwich a web-cam streams live video. The platform is attached to the spire of Norwich Cathedral and you can now observe the Peregrins as they sit on the eggs to the chicks hatching and flying the nest.
Children will find so much interest and enjoyment once the chicks hatch, watching as the parents come and go with a catch in their talons to feed them and as the flight feathers grow and the chicks exercise their wings.
Last year 2012, 4 eggs were laid, 3 hatched but one chick did not survive. The two remaining chicks fledged and as they were preparing to leave the nest one chick stood on the edge of the platform and then went over the edge.
Question is, did he jump or was he pushed, the jury is still out on that one.
Tune in and see what happens this year.
Enjoy.

It looks a bit windy up there but she seems contented enough. Thanks for the link.

Hi Ray B
When I was a kid I could turn any page of the Observer Book of Birds and name any birds within, also recall all of its characteristics e.g. habitat, colour of eggs etc.
Thank you for the link I’ll drop in from time to time and watch their progress.
Regards
OL

Re: Live from Norwich, The 2013 Peregrines
The other morning I got up to find the sparrowhawk had taken down a pigeon and was dismembering it at the bottom of the garden. Interestingly it plucked all the feathers off and then flew off with the carcass. It's never pleasant when the sparrowhawk pays a visit, it's nature in the raw and the sparrowhawk needs to feed to stay alive and it helps to keep the pigeon population down.

Hi Ray
Brilliant footage, thank you.
Thankfully this cold spell is due to end this weekend which should make sitting around (incubation) a little less demanding.

Hi Ray,
Thanks for that link, I find it amazing that I come on here and find a link to something that I knew nothing about happening in my own City. Once again thanks.

UPDATE from the nest. The fourth chick has hatched. At about 10.30 Thurs night the mother was seen eating the egg shell, so it is going to be a busy time at the nest feeding the four chicks.

Last update from the nest. Wings are being flapped and standing on the side of the nest platform looking to the future, it's time for the chicks to leave the nest. They should go in the next few days. All four chicks have made it which is a good number to get this far.

What a lovely sight they are although no use being a peregrine if you suffer from vertigo. They all look very healthy and it won't be long before they leave the nest. Bad news for pigeons!!!
