I think you are confusing prorogation with recess.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 28 Aug 2019, 15:35Agree 100% Barney. I would add that the period that parliament is shut will only be a few days longer than the party conference season when they all bug*er off to the seaside anyway. And follows their ludicrously long summer holiday. Which they didn't seem too bothered about. This wouldn't have come about at all if it wasn't for their devious scheming to try to overturn the Brexit referendum, despite an overwhelming majority of them being elected to their seats on manifestos pledging to deliver it. Go Bojo!
The two things are very different

No surprises on this thread.screwy wrote: 29 Aug 2019, 11:28Amazing how all those up in arms are calling it undemocratic.? Well.!!! Pot,Kettle ,Black springs to mind.
Many posters have been complaining about ‘anti-democrats’ for three years.
Then, as soon as something ‘anti-democratic’ happens, you appear to be all for it. None of you even question if this ploy to silence parliament ( who are our elected representatives) and to give Johnson the chance to avoid scrutiny.

Re: Brexit
I would imagine that all leavers accept it's an attempt to prevent Parliament neutering Johnson's negotiations with the EU to get a better deal than May achieved. But equally you remainers must accept that you have tried every single trick in the book to try and thwart the result of the referendum.Gill W wrote: 31 Aug 2019, 09:36No surprises on this thread.screwy wrote: 29 Aug 2019, 11:28Amazing how all those up in arms are calling it undemocratic.? Re: Brexit
Bojo wants a deal but will leave without a deal if needs be but he also knows that the Speaker will not allow a fourth vote.
This is one very good reason to start a new session of Parliament. Another good reason is the fact that the Government have run out of legislation to present to the House. A new session will permit another vote on the deal and the opportunity to present new legislation via the Queen's Speech in the Lords.
A ploy ? … but nothing as sneaky as those who have tried for 3 years to defy the will of the 17,400,000 who voted out.

Re: Brexit
The anti democrats of Bideford took to the streets today in protest about the PM suspending Parliament by 4 or 5 days.
There was a good dozen of them, most with socialist workers posters.
I said to this guy that I thought they were anti capitalist EU.
He said that they were and supported Brexit but were anti Tory.
So, I'm as confused as them as to exactly what the protest was about.

Re: Brexit
Watching the BBC News yesterday it was interesting to hear why people were there on the streets of London. Some were anti EU and of those protesting against the government many didn't know what they did want. Must admit it did look a nice day for a wander around Westminster with a placard.

Watching Ridge on Sunday this morning, according to Duncan Smith the Eu we’re willing to listen to proposals for the back stop before May signed the WTA, the rest is history, never trust a remainer.

Re: Brexit
As i see it Parliament has rejected the deal, Barnier is not for moving so the only option left is no deal unless there is a shift in attitude somewhere along the line.

Barnier had one job to do, and he has failed miserably.
He's finished as a politician.
At least Brexit has made him famous.

I heard some stupid comment last night that if the UK approve the WA then the EU will renegotiate the backstop - am I missing something here?
