Re: Brexit
I believe that Huuds Town have more chance of winning promotion back to the PL than Boris has of agreeing a new deal and getting it through parliament before Halloween.
However that leaves the EU with a major dilemma, they want an early end to Brexit and are reluctant to allow a further extension, but if they push for a revocation of article 50 they could end up with a UK even more eurosceptic and reluctant to continue accepting EU dictats, and willing to frustrate them at every opportunity.
I see no end to this issue in my lifetime.

Re: Brexit
I thought Boris's response when asked about David Cameron seeking help from the Queen to influence the Scottish referendum was very clever, "I would never divulge my conversations with her majesty, and I am not prepared to comment on others". Gets him neatly off the hook for not providing details of his discussions with the Queen about proroguing parliament to the supreme court.

Re: Brexit
For Brexiteers it's a good day, not even Ray can upset us with a two bit story about Wither-spoons
" Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay has said the UK and EU share a "common purpose" in reaching a new withdrawal deal, after a meeting in Brussels with chief EU negotiator Michel Barnier."

Re: Brexit
I suspect that the EU side will immediately reject any new UK proposals out of hand.
They are still hoping that brexit is called off.

I am confident Brexit will be achieved, the day after HS2 opens for business and the day before the Second Coming of Christ.

Re: Brexit
After listening to John Mcdonall's well articulated election manifesto proposals, promising to lavish huge amounts of money on massive improvements to his vision of a welfare state, which is bound to lead to massive increases in income tax as well as probable punitive increases in inherited wealth tax.
I wonder how Labour voting remainers square this view with their oft repeated mantra, that in the brexit referendum "no one voted to be poorer?"

Re: Brexit
So the latest on the Irish Border. The UK says we will not erect a border in the event of No Deal. Ireland says they will not erect a border in the event of No Deal.
Juncker says the EU will erect a border in the event of No Deal.
So how does that work then?
Will we see Luxembourg tanks rolling into Ireland, escorting German bulldozers and Polish builders with their JCBs to carry out building work on the soil of two sovereign nations, both of which have declared they don't want it?

Re: Brexit
A clear kick in the b***s for Leo Varadker, I wonder if he will still follow the EU party line, or will he realise that Brussels intention all along was to protect the sanctity of their single market and has nothing to do with honouring the GF agreement.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 23 Sep 2019, 13:24So the latest on the Irish Border. Re: Brexit
The National Crime Agency announced that there is no evidence that Leave UK committed any crimes during the referendum.
So, basically, it is now agreed that they broke some spending rules, as did the Remain side.
So, can we now all agree that it was won fair and square and the losers must accept that they just couldn't convince enough people with their argument

Re: Brexit
I think he's hallucinating!!
Interesting to see the reaction at the Labour Party Conference when the vote for Labour to become a party of Remain was lost. Suddenly the losers were up in arms saying it was only a show of hands, it should have been a card vote and therefore did not represent the views of the Labour party and its members. Do they not realise how pathetic they come across with their excuses?
Today's ruling from the Supreme Court will give them hope that the voice of democracy will be heard............... when it suits them.
I was taught to be cautious

Re: Brexit
Supreme court says proroguing parliament was illegal and it is up to the speakers to decide what to do.
I wonder if any Govt ministers will turn up if Bercow declares parliament open?
