Sorry Mob but I hope you can get some points on the board this afternoon. You've had a lousy start to the season. Good luck!!!

Spurs - the only team who can come third in a two horse race. Not the best of losers but they should be getting used to it.

Mob, what have Watford and a triangle got in common?

Bit of a sickener for us giving away a needless penalty in the last minute.
Good team though.

3 for the mighty Gills as well..... Plus missed two penalties.
I wonder if there has ever been a hat trick of penalty misses?

Yes after our first win I calculated that if we kept up our 4 from 7 form we might get into the play offs, now after 7 from 9 we might make auto promotion. If we continue to improve at the same rate who know where we could be.

There.
A bit of positivity at last John.
Promotion may be a bit ambitious but mid table obscurity is certainly on the cards.

According to my son we played our best football since we beat Wolves last season. I am now hoping we are safe from relegation by January, then we can concentrate on an FA cup run, we haven't had one of those for decades.

0:9 to the Foxes, WOW

I feel sorry for the Saint's players / supporters but this result will hopefully help heal our Man City 8:0 drubbing. :(

It was a poor performance by the Saints against a team full of confidence. Their sending off didn't help but the writing was on the wall before that. It's going to be a long season for Southampton and their supporters based on that display.

Pleased to have helped you out Mob!!!

Just enjoying it while it lasts but can't see anybody catching Liverpool at the moment and Man City will always be in the mix. A top 4 finish would be amazing. Watch this space for with our team you never know any more.

What is the current view of VAR now that it has been operational for a few months. My view was that it was not needed and unlikely to resolve the arguments over referee's and linesmen's decisions.
All that it seems to have done is move the conflict away from the on field officials to those in the VAR bunker, most contentious offside and handball decisions are still just that unresolved, there is no way any assistant referee could reasonably be expected to flag for offside as accurately as VAR, nor can a referee be expected to adjudicate in the split second a ball hits a hand as to whether it was deliberate or accidental, and VAR outcomes in all of these create even more arguments than the original on field referee's decision.
The current VAR rules and regulations are, IMO, not fit for purpose and they should stop using it live in matches, but continue to use it as a training vehicle for officials and then to try and establish a more reasonable set of rules that overturns only very major incorrect decisions.

VAR is still settling in as are those who adjudicate using it. A few teething problems should be expected but it will come good imo in the end.

I am however generally happy with the offside rulings as one is either off or on and getting it wrong, even by a toe nail, can result ultimately in a team being relegated / not playing in Europe etc.

The handball Law needs revising as players are deliberately pinging the ball at the defending players wayward extremities to gain unfair advantage.

VAR should be attempting to ensure that officials got the decision as correct as possible, only a Marvel super hero would have the eyesight to pick out some of the offside decisions that have been overturned. And surely if any player could pick out an opponents hand with a shot, then he would be better served passing the ball to one of his team mate, but a review of the handball law would not be a bad thing.
VAR as currently operated is deeply flawed and it should go withdrawn and a heck of a lot more training and understanding of what it requires to amend needs to be studied before it is re-introduced.

I still think it has a value but the problem with it is the way it is administered, and some of the decisions are still debatable. To my mind the first Man City penalty appeal should have been given. He had his arm out and clearly stopped the ball going through. The second was a case of ball hitting hand so no penalty.
As for the offsides (and we have benefited) I find it pretty ludicrous that you can be claimed offside when there are literally inches in it (or just a toenail!!!). I'm not sure whether this was the intention when VAR was first mooted. There has to be a degree of leeway, much as there is with penalty decisions which can be a 50/50 affair. On the positive side it has eradicated some of the pushing and pulling at corners but it still goes on and even with VAR defenders are still getting away with it.
At the moment it could be better than it is. I wonder if it could be improved by allowing teams three appeals apiece, much as there is in tennis and cricket. What do you think? Discuss!!!

No it's just as inconsistent as referees decisions, and creates even more argument and division.
I don't think the cricket option would work for football, just imagine a team captain trying to get a consensus, then chasing after the ref. all this possibly while the game continues.

The video ref in RL is only consulted by the on field ref, and then only after a possible try, is it different in RU?
