We met him on Arcadia in Barbados during its first season, he was very approachable and his passion for cooking was obvious.

That's very sad news, I remember meeting him after one of his demonstrations on Arcadia..I always felt he was harshly done by P and O he was a lovely man who always stopped to chat and sign books etc.

Familiar with his recipes but never met him on a P&O ship although we were all chatting away a few years ago in a Wiltshire pub one Sunday lunchtime … took me a minute or two to realise who he was though.

Gary Rhodes was far too young to die. Such amazing tributes from other Chefs pouring in. I still think that the meal we had in Arcadian Rhodes was one of the best meals we've had on board a P&O ship, much better than Marco we think. I make one of his recipes every Christmas, an Apple and Grape Chutney that's fantastic with a Chicken Liver Pate - or any other pate or cold meat come to that. It's become a Christmas tradition.

I visited one of his restaurants in Dubai about 8 years ago but hadn’t ever been in the one on Arcadia. He was so young and his death sounds unexpected - very sad

An absolute gentleman. We had a couple of meals in Oriana Rhodes while he was on board . He was a Man Utd fan and enjoyed his pint in Lords Tavern watching football. Current select dining is nowhere near the standards he set. RIP.
