Silly techie question .....

Unread post by Boris+ »

Silly question time folks!!!!

I have a new phone which operates fine except that the connectivity provider has stuffed up and blocked the blasted thing from phoning in or out or texting!!!
This phone shows the same time as my laptop etc - the time is correct. If I receive an email on my laptop it will show the time it was received (eg in one instance the incoming email arrived at 15.30hrs), it also shows the time it was received into the same email account on my phone, but the time is about 7 hours earlier! (eg same email as mentioned above shows in at 0830hrs on the phone).

The cutting-off of the connectivity was done by accident by the 'phone-line' provider accidentally when I rang to port over my old number; and I can't be doing with ringing an overseas call-centre again, so I will wait until I go back to the actual shop. I can manage - but it is so annoying.

I would however like to work out why the same email account is showing two different receipt times.

Any ideas?

I'm having a bad week - my everyday watch has broken and I have to take that in to get it fixed ........ but then on the other hand I can be bright and chirpy because I have my etickets!

Em

Sorry Em, I haven't a clue. I would give our friends from miles away another call. It sounds like it's something at their end but either way they are the ones most likely to sort it for you.
I know it's a bit of a bagatelle cos some are better than others. I always get quite frustrated when they start asking for Serial numbers, Part numbers, UIN numbers etc all of which are hidden underneath the battery of the phone you are using!!! Their paymasters don't exactly make it easy for them but they, like me, are trying to earn an honest crust so I try to hide my frustration. However it is so much easier when call centres are based in UK.

My sister rang a call centre and got an operator whom she could not understand. After a lengthy telephone call interspersed with 'Pardon', 'I'm sorry I didn't understand', 'Sorry could you repeat that' my sister enquired, 'May I ask whereabouts in India are you?' to which the operator replied, 'Newcastle!!!'

Hope you get your phone fixed.

Hi OBF,

Thanks for the post - I am quite willing to be patient and understanding and wait to get the phone line bit connected again ...... and if it doesn't happen by my next scheduled visit to the area where the shop is, then I'll go and see them then, face to face.

Still very puzzled about the time difference though.

Merry choccy eggs etc!

How lovely - I think I'll go for that too!

We have been given a box of miniature choccy eggs from Hotel Chocolat! However, the choccies in Betty's of Harrogate are superb too!!!

I am not really up on phones but the time difference could be because it is not contacting the appropriate server to have its time reset properly OR possibly the country setting is not correct.

... or it could be that it is not set up to have the time auto adjusted.

Many thanks for the replies - the time and country are correctly set etc., it's a lovely phone, I am getting used to it and am happy with the hardware! It appears to be just the blasted 'phone line' involved.

The phone is a Nokia Windows phone, and I am having great fun playing with the interesting bits like maps of places we are scheduled to visit etc., and I can access email etc too - just no phone calls or texts until the new sim-card etc arrives by snail mail. It's on pyg so that if it gets nicked I couldn't be lumbered with any silly bills, and I am well aware of how to turn of roaming when I want to. The 'phone line' bit of it is 3 - which I have used for ages, and last time I got a new phone the chore of taking the old number across to the 'new' phone was simple and quick. Now however it isn't simple and quick any more! However, on the upside I still have my Skype which is lovely.

Oh well - onwards and upwards, thanks for the help guys 'n gals!
