Will you be bunging a bob to hear Big Ben bong on the 31st?.....or will it be a bong to far for the millions who will see it as a slap in the face?
Apparently the clanging arm has been removed and it would have to be replaced at an estimated cost of £400,000 if Ben rings in the time of change.
I certainly won't be bunging a bob but having said that we are moving into a new era of UK independence so it gets a ding dong from me should they find the money
I think the idea of crowdfunding for bunging a bob for Big Ben bong is something that Johnson made up on the hoof, rather like the idea that he makes buses out of cardboard boxes in his spare time.

Lol
I hadn't untill your post Gill attributed the art of origami with Boris but if he has the talent to turn a piece of cardboard into a bus then just think what other talents he has to offer
£400,000 to replace the clanger? Someone's having a laugh. You can build a bl##dy good house for that.
Hi Sir Merv,
From what l have read the clanger isn't on site and if it were to be reinstated for a one off bong they apparently would need to replace some flooring below to facilitate it's replacement.....Two weeks work apparently?
It took our builder 4 weeks to do our extension and it was still only £10,000!
So let's knock £2000 off the £400k to transport the clanger back to site. That leaves £398k, or £199k per week if it's a 2 week job. Let's assume the workers get a generous £1000 each per week.
So does it take 199 workers to replace the floor?
If it does take 2 weeks they better get their finger out and get started!

You forgot to mention insurance in case they drop a clanger
I am still wanting to know what they used as a clanger on remembrance Sunday?
Hi John,
l got a Big Ben VIP pass yesterday so got to talk with a freindly hod carrier who informed me that the clanger was in place at the time of remembrance Sunday but had to be removed in order for other work to take place.........Yes l am talking a load of bolo*ks but there is an element of truth in what say so l believe.
I doubt it OL. Having made a total fool (and nuisance) of himself over the past three years Soros' puppet boy is probably still wiping egg off his face. Must admit those illuminated EU flags were rather smart.
I think that the whole scenario is just unnecessary symbolism.
The job is done and there is no need to rub the losers nose's in it.
We must remember that 48% didn't vote to leave and should respect that.
I can only assume that the 'Stop Brexit Man' has gone back to his secure unit.
Care in the community has clearly failed in this instance.
Agreed Barney. We cant fight WW2 for ever. At some stage we have to stop watching war film on Yesterday channel, and stiffen our national pride with some new, up to date post Brexit achievements.
I, for one, will be celebrating on January 31st. For three years I have witnessed a dirty tricks campaign by those who disagreed with the outcome of the referendum. For three years we have seen mass demonstrations, blocking tactics in Westminster, publicity stunts in the Albert Hall, mass marches, trips across the Channel by MPs who sought to overcome the result, court cases, delaying tactics and have endured that revolting character outside Parliament. Even now there are those in the EU who are still arguing the result. Throughout these shenanigans the majority remained largely quiet and bided their time waiting to express their opinions via the General Election. The rest is history. January 29th will be our time to celebrate after which we should come together and put the rest to bed, which is what should have happened three years ago.

If the cost to make Ben bong is correct, then I think we should just abandon that idea, and maybe leave it to individuals or leave organisations to arrange their own Brexit parties, accepting that a national event may annoy a sizeable minority of the population.
You are so right, after all the disappointments and set backs along the way a celebration is deffo called for so have just booked a pub lunch for that Wednesday
