Or they should have one to see how their consumption goes down when he goes on holiday....

The deed is done. Checked and double checked the figures and the best ST could offer was £139 per month, up from £109. OVO £98, based on a precise quote for exactly the same consumption, fixed for a year. And my standing charge will be almost halved on last year so my bill on my rare holidays, when I consume almost zero, will be much reduced.

So I have clicked "switch".

As for monthly payments, as winter was ending last year a revised payment of £90 pm was set. As we spend most of the summer at the coast, a 'kitty' built up and as of October last stood at £400 +.
A review three weeks ago and I was in credit by £90. They refunded the £90 to my bank and based on the last three months they put the mp up to £110pm. As we are now almost to the end of winter away we go again. At the next review they will put mp down
On a fixed monthly before the gov ordered repayments of any build up, I did find over the year it all smoothed out. This is progress?
Don't worry, be happy

My OVO tariff pays 3% if I'm in credit. I might set my direct debit high deliberately and use it as a savings account. Better than my bank or building society is offering!

Our energy deal ends in March. Looking this morning alot of the good deals require you to sign up for a smart meter, which we dont want. In fact British gas says if you dont do this within 3 months you will ne moved to a alternative tariff.

Out of interest why not? It is no different from an ordinary meter but has the added bonus of not having to read it.

We have no problem with our smart meter. I find the convenience useful. But not £40 a month useful and it won't work fully with OVO. But if they offer to replace it with one of theirs I'll be quite happy to accept. My only issue was the dodo fitter who put it in who at one point said he'd have to cut off our gas because our boiler wasn't installed correctly. This from a bloke with a couple of weeks gas training to fit meters. I finally convinced him he was wrong when I pointed out our boiler had a fan assisted flue, which he hadn't noticed!

Interesting news item this morning which points out that wholesale energy process are at their lowest for 10 years. That makes Scottish Power's wish to increase my bill by 30% even more ludicrous.

And guess what. I've had two phone calls from SP in two days. I didn't answer them but presumably to try to make me change my mind. And there's me assuming they didn't actually have an outgoing phone line, having failed to return my calls in the past when I had a query.

Oooh. Make that three calls in three days. If they're desperate they can leave a message or email me. Or send the bloke round they promised last July who never turned up.

It's official. We're now getting our energy from OVO. It appears to be the same shape and colour as the old lot. :D Just cheaper.

We had similar attention Mervyn from SP.

We left to go with Octopus and wouldn't change back. Maybe not the cheapest but their communication skills are excellent.

I have no loyalty at all when it comes to energy, once the current fixed deal is ending I find the best fixed deal that's on offer and switch. The only criteria I use is to pick one that's got a reasonable record, and not too new.

Not waited for the current deal to end, leaving OVO for Octopus, £150.00 saving despite paying £60 for early cancellation. There are some good deals out there, the big guys having bought forward for their industrial and commercial customers, now in a depressed market have a surplus to shift.

We're still very happy with OVO, but a friend of ours is very impressed by Octopus.
