Also can anyone recommend a reputable tour company as we want to visit Pompeii or Herculaneum and Sorrento when in Naples as P& O don't offer this.

Thanks :)

Hi BS2424,
Sorrento is easy d.i.y. as there is a ferry from near the spot where P&O berthed. Another time we caught a train to Herculaneum and back from Sorrento I think, however it may have been Naples, time factors will come into play doing this.
Not a lot of use to you, but with the response to date better than nothing. Members of this forum will jump on any errors so you may get more info that way.

Hello!

I'm surprised that P & O are not doing these trips as they are very popular. Could it be that as you don't go until June the full list of trips is still not yet posted to your Cruise Personaliser? You may find that they are put on in full sometime in April. Good luck anyway, it's a beautiful part of the world!

Best wishes

Maureen

The traffic in Naples is truly horrendous and if you are delayed the ship will leave without you, a P&O option will ensure that the ship does not sail until you are on board. DIY is possible either by ferry as stated but also by rail … Italian trains however are not known for their reliability.

One tour operator to consider is Viator

As Maureen said, I’d expect P&O to be running such trips on this cruise.
They certainly are on our two week Med cruise stopping at Naples.
I don’t think I would diy on this port personally but good luck if you do.
Ps . Welcome

Viator is just a TripAdvisor subsidiary selling other people's tours, better to google for local tour operators and cut out the middle man.

Viator is however a company to be trusted … hence the suggestion.

I wouldn't google an unknown such-a-body with a broken down bus in Naples but hey-ho if you do 8-)

You might trust tripadvisor but I certainly dont, and
Viator probably use the same broken down bus company to book your tour with, then charge a commission on top.

Thank you everyone for your advice. :D

We are going to wait until a bit nearer the time to see if P&O will offer this excursion. Would you advise against doing any excursions outside P&0 for the whole of the cruise in Italy or just Naples? We have previously been on excursions outside P&0 when we cruised with them in the Caribbean.

We usually diy but always do a fair bit of research.
There are a few places where I wouldn’t.
The main concern is traffic and getting back to the ship on time.
Empty vessels .. and all that
