Well I saw Jezzer quoted as saying he was willing to serve too! I'm afraid I fell about laughing. Whoever the new leader is, if they have either of those two, or Old McDonald, on their team they might as well hand in their notice now.

The trouble is Merv that most of the Labour party members seem to share their old leaders views on policy.

I believe the one candidate for leadership of the Labour party the Tories should fear is Lisa Nandy. She will appeal to northern voters who have lent the Tories their vote, she distances herself from those on the opposition front benches and she is looking to change the profile of the Labour party. On the contrary Starmer and Long Bailey are still very much old guard Labour, Starmer in particular trying to hedge his bets and is not to be trusted. It will be interesting to see how the members vote.

My thoughts exactly, however, if the next labour leader odds are anything to go by then Lisa has an uphill battle.

True OL. Labour are still in denial as to how they lost the last election and are in danger of spending longer in the doldrums. I believe they need to clear out all of the old guard - Abbott, Corbyn, McDonnell, Long Bailey, Starmer, Butler, Thornberry (or should I say Lady Nugee), Burgon, Ashworth & Co and bring in a new, fresh-faced look not tainted with the shenanigans of the past three years when they thought they knew best and ignored their electorate. I don't think it will happen somehow.

Perhaps because of the area where I live, I have found that when they were doorstep canvassing our local Labour party people knew exactly with no prompting what was wrong at the top. The policies are all very nice in theory, but this is not 1945. We cant afford them, (or from the experience of 1970 to 1985,) the power to hold the country to ransom, which those policies hand to militant undemocratic union leaders. I have never voted for Labour although I admired some of their highly principled MPs at times, but by the same token I cannot vote Tory again, while that lothario buffoon is leader. I realise that in the heady triumphs of the Tory election victory, and what that means for Brexit many of you see Johnson through rose tinted ( sky blue perhaps) glasses. However I am very concerned for the future if the Tory party does not rein him and the far right, in soon. We need one nation Tories now, if there are any.

Being in favour of Brexit does not necessarily mean we all agree with Boris, what he does or how he does it Frank so no we do not all see him through rose tinted glasses. However I hope he takes a firm stance with the EU who thought we were a soft touch under May.

It seems that some of you were right, and the loss of our budget contribution is causing dismay and disarray among the EU. That penny has dropped, for them at last. Perhaps the potential loss of markets penny will drop on both sides soon. As for Boris Johnson, he represents for me, the ugly epitome of everything I hate to see in Englishness. I wont insult the Scots, Irish or Welsh by including them. I hope that we dont trade our fishing rights away in the negotiations, furthermore that we have the guts to defend them physically in .the future. Cynical French and Spanish skippers already ignore quotas as it is.

His Public School image does little for me but if he gets the job done the accent and mannerisms matter not a jot.

At the end of the day Boris is only a temporary figurehead but with a handle on policy going forward, this Brexiteer will support him for achieving what so many tried to thwart.

I am happy with Boris he has that unpredictable streak, a sort of toned down Trump, which will definitely help in the trade negotiations. I can't imagine Barnier is looking forward to trying to maintain order with the EU demands, whilst not having a clue how the UK Govt. will react to anything.
More importantly he is certainly a much better PM than Corbyn would have been, or indeed any of the current rag tag and motley assortment of labour MPs.

Anyway on a lighter note Congrats to him and Carrie on their engagement and upcoming wedding as well as a baby on the way.

I cashed in our Premium Bonds to buy a new car Mervyn. They had not won a thing, and at my age the new car gave me pleasure (still does), whereas looking at a sum of money doing nothing was not. I don't know how n s & I can expect anyone to keep them. We only keep our shares as a type of charity towards our IFA. Otherwise, we would be frittering it away selfishly on our own pleasure. ps dont tell Sue I said that, even in jest.
