Although I am self isolating I did venture out today to Marks and Spencer as they are having over 70's and vulnerable people shopping hours at their stores and I simply cannot get a home delivery until goodness knows when.

First person I met in the car park told me I couldn't go in because it was for over 70's - I said well I am !!! The staff on the door said the same so I produced my driving licence and they let me through - it was great - not many people so avoidance was possible and well stocked shelves except for of course loo rolls and pasta When I came out there was a long queue waiting to go into the shop and it was only 9 am!!!

Is everyone else a bit paranoid with wiping everything - got in the car and wiped all the surfaces and the keys and my hands - has to be done I know and when I got home I did the same with the food etc.

I've been to check on my mother who has almost run out of medication - I think I need blood pressure tablets myself

I think I'll dig out the paints this afternoon and try to escape from these very trying times

Mrs S and I are currently self isolating (sort of) darn East Devon at our favourite holiday rental in the middle of knowhere. Nippy, but its dry and sunning and the views are lovely.

It's obviously not the same in this part of the country (ludlow) we had a online home delivery (tesco) yesterday and recived what we ordered although some of the products were replaced with similar products.

Foxy, the next time you are making your way down to Southampton you should make a detour to our part of the world.....stunning scenery albiet with a faint smell of rural muck everywhere..........you get used to it after a time.

I did venture out yesterday as our potting shed sprung a big leak so needed some felt. The visit took less than 5 minutes in which time l managed to hold my breath for for 30 seconds while at the check out Before l got into the car l used my sanitiser gell incorporating the small bottle in the hand cleansing process.

We are self isolating and Sue wont allow me to go and get any shopping. Our daughter did manage to get us white bread flour, and yoghurts yesterday. We are expecting a Sainsburys delivery click and collect next week but how much will be available is anyone's guess.. We are reducing our food consumption significantly, especially carbs which have almost disappeared from shops. It isn't a massive order, and I can see us being slimmer at this rate.

We are reducing our food consumption significantly, especially carbs which have almost disappeared from shops. It isn't a massive order, and I can see us being slimmer at this rate.

How I wish my sons lived closer to me Frank but unfortunately not and add to this my elderly mother who is completely reliant on my sister and myself. My visit today was the first this week and I kept a good distance from her - she is housebound now and makes the best of things but said today that in her lifetime (she is 97) she has never known anything like it. She was billeted during the war in Bedford whilst working at Bletchley and her landlady was apparently given an allowance to feed her lodgers but food was very sparse - at least she said she eats well and healthily but its the general air of doom and gloom she is picking up on. With all this panic buying I wonder how much extra food wastage there is going to be over the next 6 months.

Some staples will obviously last but empty fruit & veg shelves ???

Bread flour and yeast all sold out - with bread available will it be used ?

As I said elsewhere, some people must be learning to cook. Expect a run on cookery books? Some have bought extra freezers. We make a loaf, and cut it into slices, then we freeze the slices in threes, and take them out a day at a time, it lasts about a week like that, so there is no waste. We have enough flour to make 5 loaves, and we just hope the flour reappears in the shops by the time we use the last of our bag. Everything is going slimmingly in this house.

Hi Jan, we are 6 miles from our daughter, and she is doing her best. Luckily we have a Sainsburys near us and at least they allow us to place orders even if they have a long lead time. Waitrose have been a waste of space. Their web site keeps crashing on us. If we log in, it lets us begin ordering and then mysteriously disappears. I wouldn't mind except for the simpering emails they send assuring us that they are prioritising solving the problems.

Has anyone else been inundated with e-mails from loads of banks, telecoms and other service providers,telling us how they intend to offer us lots of services during this time of crisis, to help us safeguard our health, wealth and jobs, presumably while taking a massive slice to add to their profits.
It appears that P&O/Carnival are not the only ones trying to make money out of this pandemic.

We had a Waitrose delivery today. There were 10 substitutions and 7 items unavailable which included toilet rolls. Never had such a high number before. The substitutions were mainly to branded products from the “essential” range but charged at the lower price so we gained there.

However they sent us a large bunch of flowers as an apology for not fulfilling our order.

Excellent service so we will continue using them.

Yes we have too. Annoyingly from Waitrose after I nearly threw the PC out of the window in frustration with their web site. I hear that M&S are shelf filling their food stores faster than the other, (?)

We went to Sainsbury's on Tuesday, and it was a disconcerting experience to be presented with so many empty shelves. As it was fairly early, there was fresh produce available, and we managed to get the majority of what we needed, although not necessarily our usual brands. Although tinned items, flour, pasta, rice, loo rolls pretty much decimated.

Yesterday we walked down to the local Co-op, just before 8am, and got a couple of items. Although the shelves weren't heaving, there was adequate fresh food.

However, not a loo roll to be seen anywhere. I found a pack of 9 rolls on ebay for a marked up price, which I ordered and were delivered today. I now feel I have sufficient for a while.

Our next plan of action is to go to Sainsburys on Tuesday. We will get there at opening time. Opening hours have been changed to allow for more shelf restocking, so I am hoping for a reasonably normal shop..... we'll see.

I get the sense that this is the phoney war stage. People still seem quite insouciant, and don't really know what's about to hit us. Our deaths from Coronavirus is following an almost identical trajectory to Italy, although 14 days behind. I saw Sky News yesterday with a report from an Italian Hospital, and it was harrowing. Unless there's a miracle, that will be us in two weeks time.

The storm is coming, please, everyone, take it seriously.
