Corona virus symptoms

Unread post by Stephen »

This was sent to me today from my sister who has a friend who managed to keep a daily log of her Covid-19 symptoms. Although not tested and confirmed it still sounds horrible.

My Viral Symptoms – for the record
· Day 1 - I started to feel unwell on the 18th March 2020 - I had a very scratchy, sore throat possibly I had it the day before too, but it wasn’t bad enough to register. I called my GP who called me back and told me to self-Isolate as I could have CV. I took my temperature which was 36.3 so I wasn’t unduly worried and thought perhaps I had tonsillitis.
· Day 2 - By day 2 of isolation my sore throat had developed into the worst I have ever experienced - I felt like I had swallowed a box of razor blades and I had developed a cough. on taking my temperature it was up slightly at 37.7
· Day 3 of Isolation my temp was still up, and the cough and throat had taken hold. I was dosing with Paracetamol every four hours and felt fatigued and ached all over. I was sucking ice cubes to help with the swelling in my throat. I also started to develop a runny then blocked stuffy nose and had no appetite. Completely lost my sense of smell and taste. Coughing continuously and had diarrhoea that was yellow in colour.
· Day 4 - I could not get out of bed. I felt so ill with worse symptoms that had all carried on from Day 3.
· Day 5 - I woke up with conjunctivitis in my eyes and again fatigue and aching kept me in bed but lying down was hard as I was coughing so much. My temperature had returned to normal at 36.3. At one stage I had a fit of coughing that scared me so much as I could not get my breath. It was like choking and my airways were being restricted. I managed to relieve it with steam from the shower.
· Day 6 - Still feeling ill but certainly not as bad as previous days - coughing still and taking Paracetamol every four hours - otherwise my throat flares up again. Also blowing nose to relieve congestion is awful, creating large amounts of nose bleeds, grot and clots from nose (maybe because I am on anticoagulants). Had another episode of not being able to breathe but managed to contain it with water and trying not to panic. Did manage to eat 2 eggs.
· Day 7 - 24 March - After many nights of little or no sleep and feeling very scared, I had a better night’s sleep, still coughing but far less than previous nights. Still feeling slightly lightheaded (brain foggy) and have no sense of smell or taste but feeling far more myself. I will continue to take Paracetamol every 4 hours to ensure that my throat stays relatively calm. Managed to eat some mushrooms and tomato’s – tried toast and it choked me.
· Day 8 – The coughing has now made me pull all my muscles in my stomach which makes coughing very painful – Still feel tired and coughing and still feel quite lightheaded too. Throat still bad, eases with paracetamol. Took Benylin Night stuff at 5am to ease pain of coughing and slept till 9.45 which is a blessing. Blowing and coughing a lot of mucus now too which I hope is because the virus is going. When will it ever end!!
· Day 9 – After another scary coughing fit in the night where I couldn’t breathe, I eventually got to sleep at around 2 am and slept till 7 am!! Result! Have woken with congestion on my lungs which I have cleared with coughing, slight sore throat still, terrible fatigue and a headache but apart from that I do feel a little better – will continue to take paracetamol. Stomach muscles still bad when coughing.
· Day 10 – A better night last night – fell asleep at midnight, woke at 3 coughed to release mucus then went back to sleep with a dose of Benylin night at 4.30 – woke at 7.30am. Aching all over from coughing and still taking paracetamol for sore throat but apart from throat and coughing other symptoms now easing. Back ache from coughing too.
I hope I am over the worst of it now but as I have not been to hospital I have not been tested. I will definitely get a test for antibodies if and when one becomes available.

Sounds awful for your sister's friend, Stephen. What with Prince Charles and now Boris and the Health Secretary with the virus it must surely make people, especially some of the younger ones, sit up and take notice. We went to our local Waitrose this morning and standing in the lovely sunshine for 15 minutes in our 2 metre slots which stretched well round the car park, all I could think of was how awful it will be on a rainy day to queue for supplies.

That was my exact thoughts as well - only we were in Tesco car park.

One point.

Taking Paracetamol four hourly is over and above the daily recommended dose, which should be no more than 8 a day. Paracetamol can be very dangerous if taken in excess.

Believe me, I’ve seen and nursed it all too often.
