Halogen ovens
Wonderful claims are made about these but how good are they? Are they a must have or just another gadget I have to find space for in the kitchen?
I was taught to be cautious

My mother and mother in law have them, useless gimmicky rubbish, they keep switching on and off all the time and rarely give constant heat
we have good old fashioned gas hobs and they work fine

A multi-function fan oven seems a better bet to me ... and the hobs leave a lot to be desired as far as we are concerned.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Re: Halogen ovens
I swear by my halogen oven,i originally bought it to use in my caravan but i use it all the time at home.It cooks so quick i even do roasts in it.It is also so easy to clean,it has a defrost setting and a self clean.I have not tried a cake .It saves electricity and is a healthy way to cook as all the fat falls to the bottom of the dish.My element went rusty and i contacted 'Andrew James who i bought it from and they sent a new lid.I have nothing but good things to say about them but we are all different and i'm sure there will be some people who disagree with me,but i love it

Not sure which one your in laws have but mine is fitted with a 60 minute timer so i can set it for how ever long i like, and it cooks evenly maybe there is something wrong with the halogen bulbDark Knight wrote:My mother and mother in law have them, useless gimmicky rubbish, they keep switching on and off all the time and rarely give constant heat

I presume you are talking of one of those glass bowls with the halogen element in the lid. Friends have one that they use in a caravan (like greenfish) and think it is great. I think that a proper sized oven is better for the house though.
We have a a couple of halaogen elements on our hob and they are fantastic ... immediate heat and cook much faster than the normal hobs.

I've owned one for a few years, tried it once. It took about 2 hours to cook a jacket potato and it tasted funny when I eventually got bored of waiting. Could well have been me not the machine though...

My father has one and he thinks they are fantastic and are ideal for an elderly person on there own.
