Any Sainsbury online experts out there, I have a delivery due on Wednesday but starting to plan our next one, as a test I tried to book a slot but the complete schedule says non available, despite us being on their priority list. Is this because I still have an order to deliver, and will slots show up once this has been delivered?

Your basket will be empty but add items to it and then save them but do not go to Checkout. Do this as often as you wish.

If you look at the delivery slots you should note that you have a delivery ' pending ' for Wednesday of ' Week 1 '

They are not presently showing anything for ' Week 2 ' or ' Week 3 '.

You are blocked from making another delivery in the same week and slots will only appear for the following week when that week is imminent. In normal times you can book multiple slots over a three week period.

They open up for the following week once you've had your delivery in my experience, ie you can't book a slot for this week and another for next week. I looked Thursday morning and this coming Tuesday was all available.

What I'm not sure about is how the delivery charge works, I chose a green van slot when they are in the area anyway which said 50p but when I picked it it went to £7. Which if I have to pay I will pay happily just to get a delivery, but I'm baffled as to how it is supposed to work.

It just means that they are already delivering in your area.
It's an eco thing.

I always used a green Ocado delivery slot - until they threw me off for not being old enough! Even though my husband is!

I've been having Ocado deliveries for the past 10 years since the time I broke my ankle and trusting John with a shopping list was a waste of time as he completely ignored it and I got things that looked 'a good price'. Before the lockdown started I had already got deliveries booked for two weeks so we were all right. The only difference it made was that I could only edit the items once. Since then when I tried to log in I couldn't. I did email them stating that my husband was immunosuppressant and I was staying in to avoid the possibility of me catching the virus and passing it on to him. I got a reply stating that that they were looking at this - at this point John wasn't on the Government special list, though he should have been - and Ocado did allow me to make one order which was delivered last Friday. I did read that there was a time when new slots were released although they said they were being released as they came up. Anyway last night I thought I'd have a look and once I'd entered my email and password I was put on a waiting list which lasted probably about 4 mins and then I was in to my account. However, this didn't mean there were any vacant slots but I eventually found one a week this coming Wednesday in the evening - never had an evening delivery before. I wonder how many people who have started having deliveries will continue them once the emergency is over. Looking back to when I started because of my ankle in plaster and then afterwards walking over distances - like round a supermarket - was difficult and I'd found how good it was having things delivered, particularly the heavy items, so I continued.

I started having home delivery about 10 years ago when I was recovering from chemo.
There were more in the household then. I found it so useful that I kept it going and we usually have one a week with Sainsburys.
When the lockdown first started I found it difficult to book a slot despite having a delivery pass, I pay 6 months ahead at a time and it works out that the last couple of months are free.
However I have been able to secure deliveries and have added my fathers shopping onto ours for tomorrow. I think they must have taken on additional staff as the delivery slots are earlier in the morning and later in the evening.

I've never been able to persuade Trish to do get home delivery before as she likes to check things like fresh veg before selecting. Fair enough. Maybe this enforced trial will change her view. My theory is we could get tinned stuff etc delivered and just shop for the fresh as and when. Once this is all over of course.

It also, generally, has longer ' use by ' dates than Tesco ….. in Darzet anyway.

I have to pop in and offer my support for Tesco, we have tried both over the years, but do find Tesco is generally cheaper and the quality is equally as good as Sainsbury for fresh produce, and use by dates are always much longer than the slightly smaller but much nearer Sainburys.
But I did not find a way to register as at risk with them, but did with Sainsbury.

Our nearest Tesco is 10 miles away so Sainsburys is our shop of choice on that basis alone. The other nearby supermarket is Morrisons but the spaces in its car park are smaller! Much less chance of a ding at Sainsburys!

Anyway the big news is we've successfully updated our order and remembered to checkout again this morning without losing our delivery slot. So let's see what happens when it is delivered tomorrow and then see if we can get a slot for next week.

Tesco have low ceilings which are claustrophobic but we go there from time to time for their excellent ' Finest ' ranges plus items that Sainsbury do not stock locally, if at all.
