So I have downloaded Firefox and all the above issues have gone away but unlike IE11 I no longer have the use of a spell checker. How do I switch it on, please ?

I have been using Internet Explorer 11 with Windows 10 for a while now but recently have received messages from different websites advising that they no longer support this particular Browser, there are also issues with displaying images within the Websites. Think Jacqui Lawson Cards and BBC rather than Porn sites

Moby, click on the 3 dots at the top right and go into add ons, then into browse, and then search for english spellchecker.Manoverboard wrote: 12 Apr 2020, 15:24I have been using Internet Explorer 11 with Windows 10 for a while now but recently have received messages from different websites advising that they no longer support this particular Browser, there are also issues with displaying images within the Websites. I found the same issues Moby, especially with the BBC weather site which started causing a problem with IE11 some time ago. I like IE11, so if I have a website problem I just open Chrome and use that, then revert back to IE11

Re: Browsers
IE11 is end of life and has been replaced with Edge Chromium which is getting some good reviews.
Beware with Chrome that there are some strange issues on some sites in that it does not respond correctly and these are known bugs in Chrome.

I use Edge on my PC with Windows 10 and had some initial issues with some websites but these seem to have been ironed out now, either by updates to the browser or to the affected sites.

I also like IE11 but am not at all keen on Chrome hence the Firefox choice ...Stephen wrote: 12 Apr 2020, 15:45I found the same issues Moby, especially with the BBC weather site which started causing a problem with IE11 some time ago. I cannot get along with ' Edge ' and apart from that Norton doesn't support itMervyn and Trish wrote: 12 Apr 2020, 15:52I use Edge on my PC with Windows 10 and had some initial issues with some websites but these seem to have been ironed out now, either by updates to the browser or to the affected sites.
I haven't heard of it but assume it is more akin to IE11+ than Edge ?david63 wrote: 12 Apr 2020, 15:49IE11 is end of life and has been replaced with Edge Chromium which is getting some good reviews.

Re: Browsers
Mine has a spellchecker for US English, plus other add ons which say English language but don't specifically say spellchecker. I only use firefox to give me an extra window on my phone, but only have limited bookmarks on it and don't use it to post anything, so never needed a spellchecker. I normally use Chrome for all my postings and that has a spellchecker under advanced settings, maybe you should switch.Manoverboard wrote: 13 Apr 2020, 09:19It does but the're mainly ' cosmetic ' add ons and deffo no reference to any Spellcheckers.

Re: Browsers
Moby, looked again on Firefox, and you need to go to Options, and under Advanced-General-Browsing there is a feature "check my spelling as I type", tick this and see if it works.

Re: Browsers
I have also located the following ....
Note:
Automatic spell-checking is only turned on for text boxes containing more than one line, where you can enter as much text as you want. Not all locales come with a dictionary installed due to licensing reasons.
David ?

What are you picking on me for??????
That is standard - technically where it is one line it is not a "text" box it is an input box.Manoverboard wrote: 13 Apr 2020, 10:01Automatic spell-checking is only turned on for text boxes containing more than one line, where you can enter as much text as you want

Re: Browsers
Would that be the same Edge Chromium that's been downloading on my PC these past weeks ... it has a mind of it's own and keeps sending me messages that I continue to ignore ... I still prefer Firefoxdavid63 wrote: 12 Apr 2020, 15:49IE11 is end of life and has been replaced with Edge Chromium which is getting some good reviews.
Has anybody else got it, there's probably a glowing new big blue and green slug type icon on your taskbar ...... ?

Re: Browsers
Copied over:
"Why do IT people feel the need to dabble? The latest Windows 10 update includes a new version of the Edge Browser. I've yet to spot any improvement. But is no longer possible to pin your favourites list to the side of the screen so that it remains visible. So to get here requires one extra click if I'm no the home page, two if I'm on any other. What a pain."
And to summarise my answers to responses over there, I put off the update as long as possible so the bugs could be ironed out, and it's not just me missing something. MS forums are alive with others who've spotted the problem and who confirm it really isn't there as an option.
