I find this slightly odd in the discussion about whether the public should be advised to wear masks. The concern clearly is to avoid depleting supplies needed by hospitals and the feeling seems to be that wearing a mask protects others, rather than the wearer. However:

Prof Martin Marshall, chairman of the Royal College of GPs, said advising the public to wear masks as a voluntary activity rather than a mandatory one "makes sense".

He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "In most cases there's no researched evidence to support wearing a mask if you're basically fit and well," he said, adding that it can lead to a "higher risk" of infection if people touch the mask and their eyes.

"However… if someone is coughing and spluttering then it makes complete sense to wear masks in order to protect other people."

Surely if someone is coughing and spluttering they shouldn't be out in public at all?

Exactly .... and this morning BBC Breakfast wheeled out a mega fit Firefighter who had survived but was as week as a kitten as a consequence of his experience.

It does seem a throw of the dice how badly people get it. We've seen fit youngsters die and people over 100 walk away. Clearly Boris has longer lingering symptoms than Matt Hancock or Chris Whitty.

Do the Americans have any concept of what Covid 19 is all about?

I was reading today that the American Attorney General is saying that self isolation is the same as house arrest and is a breach of human rights and that he will support anyone bringing a claim against a State Governor. Words fail me.

Now we also have Mrs Krankie saying that we are being treated as children and that is Scotland the exit from lockdown will be phased - how else would it be?

Well that's a shock. There was me thinking we'd all be doing pub crawls by May!

There was very little in Krankies briefing that told us anything that someone with a modicum of common sense would not have already assumed,. But I do think that Matty needs something new to offer at the briefings, to compensate for the waffly and repetitive way he puts over his points.
So far Rashi is way ahead of the others in his presentation techniques, he always sounds as though he knows what he is talking about, which for a politician is a refreshing change.

Despite being very much a unionist, I think Nicola Sturgeon has handled the current situation very well - unlike some of the lectern grabbers in London. We usually alternate between BBC Scotland and BBC North East (of England) for news reports and it really is quite funny as she seems to pre-empt everything that is later relayed from London.

Of course she is included in the COBR talks so she may just be repeating what has been said there but I agree she is a good communicator. Not sure she has said anything we don't already know.

I have no problem with the repetition given the number of morons who still don't get it.

She’s just jumping the gun.
I’d be ok if a release from lockdown is experimented in Scotland to see how it pans out.
I’d be happy to follow if successful.

Of course if the government releases lockdown early and the deaths mount up again we can always blame the government can't we? If they don't and the economy continues to suffer we can always blame the government. They can't win can they but I would rather play safe even though nobody more than I misses the freedom to shop, to walk, to go out and to see family and friends again.
Why do we seem to think that whatever other countries are doing is always the right course to take and whatever Westminster does is wrong?

But apart from saying school class sizes would need to be smaller, and workplaces would need to follow social distancing, what else did she say that could be considered new?

She's not saying anything new she just gets her interview out earlier. It's the same as the UK government just earlier.... She's sneaky😱

She's just been on the BBC and said much the same. It's the media trying to create the news rather than report it. Naga on one of her "You said...." ventures with the health secretary again.

Well Trump has the solution - inject everyone with disinfectant! Does this guy have a single brain cell - because if he had two he would be dangerous.

Isn't this the same person that holds the nuclear launch key?

Laphroig. My wife informs me that it smells like TCP. I doubt it will have any antiviral properties but could well lighten the mood. I may carry out some exploratory investigations this evening.

The news is, and was said by a reporter during the daily covid 19 update that Donny Trump suggested injecting bleach. Having listened to and read the remark he made, to me he posed the question of was it posible to do something like that. He did not suggest it was a good idea.

If injecting disinfectant/bleach is such a good idea should he not lead from the front.

I notice that today his Mightiness across the pond has declined to join the WHO imitative to get a Covid 19 vaccination - fine but ain't having any of ours when his does not work!

I suppose that is one more idea, albeit stupid, among many. Sad to say the Media are still imho distorting what ministers say, and creating misleading reports. I wonder if, at the end of next week, the testing reaches the magic 100,000, the rubbish media will have the decency to apologise to the government for their sneering put downs. No silly me, they will have found another source of negativity and sensationalism.

I suspect it might be US Pharma putting profit ahead of patient safety, as usual.
