Azure Window
I was fortunate enough to see the Azure Window before it collapsed into the sea and often wondered whether it could be rebuilt as it was one of the main sightseeing attractions while visiting the beautiful island of Gozo.
There’s always a balance to be had namely tranquillity of the island vs tourism and as far as I am concerned that decision should be one that the islanders of Gozo make themselves.
On a personally note I wouldn’t like to see it rebuilt to the architect’s design (see Link) as I would much favour girders plus sand and cement being moulded into something that resembles the original geographical feature.
New design vs sand and cement... Your preference?

Re: Azure Window
Some new folk have moved into the village ... from Gozo, if I ever see them I will try to remember to ask their opinion.
My own opinion is that it shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Hi David,
In a poll conducted by the Maltese Authorities 68% of those polled were in favor of the design. The design would house a Museum depicting the history of Malta and sightseeing platforms.
As l said l'm not to keen on this design but with today's technology 3 D imaging etc it could be restored to its former iconic status.

Similar to the natural bridge in Aruba .. I have a picture of Julie standing on it before it collapsed - I dare not postulate that the two events may be related

Did you manage to fit in a Caribbean Barbecue extravaganza at the Scott Arms in Kingston, the deserted village of Tynham-ish or was it a bucket n spade type short break ?

Re: Azure Window
Not the BBQ but we did a dinner trip on the train from Swanage to Corfe Castle. And a cream tea in a nearby village. And we did visit Tyneham. That was a bit spooky and surreal. And Poole Harbour and the National Trust Brownsea Island therein.Manoverboard wrote: 28 Apr 2020, 16:11Did they really, well I never![]()

Overall it was more a tea and cakes sort of visit than bucket and spade.
Stayed here

THE place to stay for a person of your calibre ( 9 mm ) is The Priory Hotel at Wareham .
Their afternoon teas are second to none, we believe, and all in a delightful riverside setting.
