Can't go out - so no bunting - unless bunting has been deemed a "necessity"!

The best that I could come up with was digging out my England cross of St George flag with GFC down the middle.
Last used at the Wembley playoff finals when beating Shrewsbury Town.

Most of the street have bunting or flags out so I thought I'd join in.

There was a street party planned but obviously not now.

We have our ( ex P&O ) flags on display and Mobietta tells me that she wants us to walk half a mile down the lane with a glass of red to toast those brave souls. " Sod that ", I said, " I'll be havin' me bl**dy dinner at that time, chuck ".

ps .... we'll be going for sure but social distancing will deffo apply given our vulnerable status

I checked but couldn't find any bun tins, I suppose I could use the Yorkshire pudding tins instead though.

No bunting, but remembering those who lived through the war.

We've got the Union Jack flag flying from the bedroom window. We have got a flagpole we could use but as neither of us are capable of using a ladder to get it up there. So we've got the flag fastened by the sash window closed on it. Now I look it's actually the White Ensign rather than the Union Flag but I don't suppose anyone will mind. Many houses in our village are flying the Union flag and there's quite a lot of bunting around apparently.

Yes, Cruisin, these remembrance days do allow you to reflect on what it must have been like for these young men and women who gave their live for our freedom......at times such as this l often tthink what l was like when l was at their age... (footlose and fancy free and having the best times of my life).....They did indeed make the greatest sacrifices.

We have dressed the house in red, white and blue balloons and streamers. Our small cul-de-sac is full of flags and bunting. We all went out at 11am for the 2 minutes silence - while maintaining our distance - and even the refuse collectors switched off their engine to join in.

At 4pm we're all going out again for tea. Again keeping 2m apart.

Various people opposed to Brexit are now hijacking VE day on Facebook with posts saying "75 years of peace in the EU".

Just for info the UN was formed in 1945. We've had 75 years of peace in the UN.

NATO was formed in 1949. We've had 71 years of peace in NATO.

The EU was founded in 1993. We've had 27 years of peace in the EU.

So come on people. Let's celebrate VE Day as it really is, a memory of those gallant men and women who served us back then. And not try to use it for other political purposes.

I’ve been to see my mother this morning and she was reminiscing about VE Day - she remembers going into Bedford from Bletchley Park with fellow workers and the streets were choc a bloc - the American Air Force men were out in the streets - her friend was very friendly with one of them - they used to go to the dances at the base. She was at Bletchley until October 1945 and her duties then were very mundane - she jokes about spending her time ripping up papers for incineration after the war was over. She was really glad to go home having spent 18 months away from home and of course communicating purely through letters. I’ve made her a VE Day tea - just sandwiches/cakes and trifle but she will enjoy it I’m sure.

My Dad worked at Bletchley Park from about 1954 to 1960, when it was a Post Office Training School. He worked in the same huts that had been used for the Enigma project and as children we used to go to parties and events in the mansion house there and feed the ducks in the park. At the time Enigma was still top secret so he didn't know the significance of the place he was working.

The union flag flying from our flag pole and front windows have a display of sail away flags, never throw away anything, glad to say they came in handy. 🇬🇧

My mum and my big sister are in this party. Mum would have been 25 and big sis two and a half. Both are still with us.

What a coincidence Merv - my mother said you only knew what was going on in your "hut" - she wasn't a code breaker - she simply typed letters in blocks of 5 onto tape from morse code but of course all part of the process. She was a civilian but there were WAAFs and WRENs supervising and she was enlisted because of her typing skills. She said from reading all the books we've bought her since she had no idea of what was going on and there was definitely a "class" above - those who spoke other languages and were accomplished in solving puzzles and codes etc. She kept her secret - she did sign the Official Secrets Act - from all the family including her mother and my father until the 70's when it started to become public.
