Didn’t he say ‘go back to work from from tomorrow’ or words to that effect?

Re: Current Affairs
One way or another we have to get industry functioning again. We cannot indefinitely furlough over 50 % (probably more) of the workforce but we must maintain social distancing. I heard Grant Shapps say yesterday or the day before that even if we run public transport at its maximum then social distancing means it can only carry 10% of likely demand. That's a really tough one to solve. Easy for me to say as a stay-at -home retiree but somehow we have to get going. Being told too soon by Mrs Krankie makes a change from Sir Know-it-all's being too late. Typically he, despite saying he wants to help, can't even wait 24 hours for the full story without piling in with his criticisms. Both seeking headlines and trying to create divergence The unions of course are using any excuse.
I thought Boris said it will be O.K. to visit family on a one to one basis outdoors maintaining distancing. A small improvement but an improvement.

I did, having been stuck behind the garden gates these past six weeks or more I, indeed we, are really looking forward to taking a decent drive straight past Sainsburys and the Garden Centre at Sherborne and back.

Re: Current Affairs
I think the govt is desperately worried that some sectors of the economy might never bounce back fully, which is why he has eased off on the "don't go out to work" rule. The rest was a bit woolly and not entirely clear, bit those who are going to flout the rules will do so whether it is Stay at Home or Stay Alert, so arguing about semantics is a bit pointless.
There is a comment in today's paper about a reciprocal deal with France, where tourists will avoid the 14 days quarantine, I wonder if others will follow. Maybe this was why Boris has brought in the quarantine change, quite clever of him if so.

Re: Current Affairs
Raab seems to be having a communications nightmare this morning. It appears he’s been saying something slightly different at each interview.
You can either
A) meet one person from another household at a park
B) meet two people from another household at a park
C) you and everyone in your household can meet one person from another household at the park.
Oh, and the back to work thing? Turns out it’s from Wednesday.

People were trying to do it at the start of lockdown. Now that it’s been government mandated, there’ll be nothing to stop them.

Re: Current Affairs
We've been virtually unscathed down here so far.
It looks like we better start getting prepared for the 'spike' that has so far eluded.
The police have been stopping cars pulling caravans and questioning them.
Our neighbours opposite put their caravan in with a repair place just before lockdown and the guy called them last week to say that he was delivering it back because he needed the space.
When he arrived, it was with a police escort, who'd told him to pull off the B3233
Obviously, when they realised that he was trade, they went off to continue their work.
There was a 'Traveller' convoy on the M5 just outside Exeter who caused chaos because one of the caravans flipped.
When the police arrived, the woman driving did a runner but was later caught and had no license.
Another driver was twice the legal drink limit.
Two of the cars were stolen and to top it all, the dogs got loose on the motorway.
This is all during 'lockdown'
With this ambiguity, the police might just as well go on leave.

Re: Current Affairs
But if they observe the correct social distancing, surely that would be safe, and as long as they use pay at the pump when they fill up their cars. Or do you all just want to stop them, because they might be enjoying themselves more than you?Manoverboard wrote: 11 May 2020, 09:40You couldn't rule it out could you, sadlyscrewy wrote: 11 May 2020, 09:38My worries are that the Loons will drive in their thousands to Beauty spots in order to get exercise or sunbathe.Manoverboard wrote: 11 May 2020, 07:52

You could try being a little more helpful Mob like which is the best route to avoid the tractors…and where’s the nearest campsite to you, me and my extended family need a break.

Like ... as they fight past each other to pay for their parking tickets and spread the virus from one to another as they go else push 'n' shove to be first to the beach ?
and as long as they use pay at the pump when they fill up their cars.
... to spread the deadly virus as they follow one another to the key pads and pump handles ? In this neck of the woods the petrol pump attendant fills / tops up the tank on the basis of having received an advance payment. You on the other hand seem happy to suggest it's ok to leave a virus for the locals.
Or do you all just want to stop them, because they might be enjoying themselves more than you?
If your idea of enjoyment is potentially killing off the locals then ' yes '.
Don't you fret ... a map is on its way with a few 10L cans cos I know you are a caring and considerate soulOnelife wrote: 11 May 2020, 11:06You could try being a little more helpful Mob like which is the best route to avoid the tractors…and where’s the nearest campsite to you, me and my extended family need a break.![]()

You are correct, what I am sure he said is that if you can not work from home and can go to work with the social distancing you should start to go back FROM Monday. Words to that effect.Gill W wrote: 10 May 2020, 23:13Didn’t he say ‘go back to work from from tomorrow’ or words to that effect?
With the nice weather we have had, those that have managed on furloughed may think they are on a long payed holiday and don't want to return back to work.
If they can, get back to work, it's our money what's keeping them.
Don't worry, be happy

As for pay at pump, I am assuming the petrol stations will be ensuring they have a full supply of gloves so that the keypads only have diesel contamination.

You forgot to mention all the tree hugging, bench sitting, hand rail rubbing and trips to the local Quality food outlets...also if they have the attitude that they think its Ok to do a bit of County hoping then they more than likely won’t give a sh*t what they leave behind.Manoverboard wrote: 11 May 2020, 11:41towny44 wrote: 11 May 2020, 11:04But if they observe the correct social distancing, surely that would be safe,

I've lived within an area of ' natural beauty ' long enough to know how SOME people behave and they have, collectively, nothing to shout about nor indeed be proud of. The minority are obviously the ones who would be spreading the virus.
Would ask you ... if they were so darned responsible how come they don't bring and wear their own gloves like wot I do ?

" OW MUCH ", I said, must be a mistake I'm not paying 600 quid for a pair of wellies when I can get them in the farm shop for less than a pony.

Re: Current Affairs
I found the whole message entirely clear. "This is what we hope to do if these tests are met. These are the earliest dates these things will happen if the data says it's safe".
But a lot aren't actually paying any attention to the message. They probably didn't watch it last night. They're just trotting put their pre-prepared gripes. Thank goodness Sir K doesn't do opposition for opposition's sake!
For example, teachers have been saying they need three weeks notice to prepare before kids go back. They've now been given three weeks notice that kids might go back in June if it's safe and these are the group we're aiming to get back. So now they're saying it's not safe! Do they have a long range crystal ball? Come on get a grip. No-one says the kids are going back tomorrow. You've had your notice to prepare for the groups that might go back. Get on with your preparations.
The only thing that baffles me is the quarantine on travellers. Why are we excluding France from the rules? That has land borders with other EU countries. If we allow travel without quarantine from France we are by default allowing it from the entire Schengen area.
