I also feel sorry for the neighbours who risked life and limb trying to save the children and even apologised to his nibs when they failed

Re: Vile product of Welfare UK
I must admit I thought that Mairead had to be a "sandwich short of a loaf" and was expecting her ( when interviewed ) to come across as such but she didn't, she is/was not a simple person, or that isn't the impression I got, a stupid one maybe because I really can't understand how any woman could be so besotted with a man that she would let him dictate how she should live her life
I can't decide if she is just strange .. I mean how many of us would accept/tolerate a third party in our marriage let alone live under the same roof as "the other woman" or if she actually lived in fear so didn't have the choice, whatever the reason she deserves everything that is coming to her if she had loved her children she would have found a way to protect them.

Meg, I found out today that a builder friend of ours who has an ongoing contract with the fire service to update their stations was actually working at the station who attended the fire and was on site when they returned from this shout, he saw first hand how the firefighters were affected so I can imagine how the neighbours felt who no doubt had children themselves, as you say they risked life and limb and for what ?? an evil monster who obviously didn't risk his own life.Meg 50 wrote:I also feel sorry for the neighbours who risked life and limb trying to save the children and even apologised to his nibs when they failed

Re: Vile product of Welfare UK
Just heard a quick mention of the sentences on this morning programme, but no confirmation as of yet.
Philpott got life, with a minimum sentence of 15 years
The other two got 17 years, with a minimum of serving half of that.
On the News just now, the above confirmed but no mention of minimum sentence.

They havent given a minimum sentence I dont think for the other two so I suppose with good behaviour they could be out in 7-8yrs. That is just over 1yr per child not a strong enough sentence in my opinion they should have all received life sentences with a minimum of 20yrs. Having spent over 30yrs in the fire service and been to similar incidents in the past my heart goes out to the firefighters who tried unfortunately in vain to save those six children and have no doubt will be in their minds for the rest of there lives.

Paul, I feel your sympathy for her is misplaced. Any mother that would stand by and allow someone to pour petrol through the letterbox of the house that her children were sleeping in doesn't even register as human to me. She had 6 lovely children by all accounts, despite the fact that their father was a completely worthless, foulmouthed, lazy, violent good for nothing, and her instinct should have been to protect them. It is a great shame that somebody didn't stick a knife in Philpott years ago. He has got life, the other 2 could be out in 8 and a half years, not a long enough sentence in my opinion. To hear the words of their defence counsels pleading for leniency on the grounds that 'he was a good parent and the kids meant everything to him' and 'her sentence was losing the children' makes me sick.paultheeagle wrote:It's not murder because they didn't intend to kill the children...Whatever you might say about Philpott the children were well cared for, clean, well fed, no signs of abuse and they attended school regulaly...They were well looked after.
I do agree though that Philpott is a scrote of the first degree and deserves to be locked up for a very long time and he should have his bits cut off so he is not responsible for breeding any more children.
I also hope that his mate, Paul Mosley. is also locked away for a very long time as well...I have a little bit of sympathy for Mairead though, I think she is, to a certain extent, a victim of this monster as well and I think the judge should show a bit of leniency to her.
The media also have a lesson to learn in this as well.....This is what happens when you make celebrities out of scumbags.

It doesn't sound a lot for killing 6 innocent children whose only mistake was being sired by this despicable couple.

It is cases like this where, for me, life should mean life and minimum sentences should not even be a remote possibility.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Agreed Mob, 'or his mate'. What a despicable threesome! They should, indeed, serve their full sentences.
How long before the sociologists come along laying blame wherever they can find it? This case is truly sickening.

I suspect that the Judge was constrained by legal rules on sentencing, but I think any sentence should be times six. With a bit of luck that evil man will not live to reach the 15 years, and if he does we must hope he is not given leave to apply for parole anyway. It is hard to even read about this man's way of life, and trying to imagine it is impossible for all of us thinking people. Jay

I totally agree, and I also agree with jay-ell the sentences should have been times six, he in my opinion should never be released.

What are the odds that before the end of the year we are reading headlines about how these 3 have been attacked in jail?
I just hope this Crackpott is put in a cell with someone called Bubba who has an abundance of viagra and a scarcity of vaseline.

Ken.... I sincerely hope we never hear about them again. But you are right, some journalist will no doubt bring them to the public view some time in the future. Jay

Under the current system, the other 2 have to serve half their sentence before they can apply for parole. If turned down by the parole board they are eligible for release subject to good behaviour, after serving 2\3rds of their sentence ie just under 12 years.
Far cheaper to the tax payer to put them all in a cell, douse with petrol and light the touch paper.

I thought a life sentence meant locked up forever. This nonsense of serving a minimum of 15 years makes a mockery of the justice system.

The mockery of this sentence is, he will be out in about 20 years, she will be out in about 10, they will both be given false identities, police protection, and probably another home.

The criminal law of our country has been observed to the letter, like it or not
But he could be heading for a fatal accident those iron stairs/walkways can get very slippery in HMP
I think that he has been given the maximum sentence for his crime - Manslaughter
Kindly

I find it somewhat ironic that this dispicable "person" was bleeding the benefit system at the taxpayer's expense and now the taxpayer has to pay several times more to keep these three in prison for the next 10+ years

I certainly don't like it, in my view they should have received the sentence, manslaughter or not, six times .
Hope you are right re the slippery stairs and a fatal accident.

Yet I am sure that there were loads of bleeding heart liberal do gooders that would have told us that he was only getting his 'entitlements' etc. This family is yet another example, to add to the thousands of others, as to why our welfare system is totally messed up .. the main culprits for it not being fixed are the bleeding heart liberal do gooders who tar all claimants with the same brush of innocence thereby depriving those genuinely in need of a decent standard of living.

Re: Vile product of Welfare UK
The Government is currently altering welfare payments by which some genuine claimants will be getting reduced benefits. Now is the time to look at the people who know every trick in the book to milk the system. They don't go to work, they produce more and more children , they get given a bigger house all courtesy of the tax payers. All MP's should be made to watch the Jeremy Kyle show to see the low life, drug taking , baby making morons. Various partners all with babies , all on benefits. Drastic changes are needed. No benefit should be paid unless a couple live together, and no further benefits paid each time a new baby is born.
