Perhaps I’m old fashioned, but I expect the leader of a country to be visible at a time of crisis. Like Churchill during the war, Thatcher during the Falklands and Brown during the banking crisis. I don’t recall them disappearing while all that was going on ( although, I don’t personally recall Churchill during the war.).
But yes, let’s move on - I will just remain quietly surprised at what people expect from a leader!
For me a Leader has to do just that ... lead, ideally by example.
Churchill, according to reports of that time made announcements as required and not on a daily basis, he did so because he instinctively knew that the public would switch off and become bored with seeing / hearing too much of him. He went for impact. I think Boris is doing / trying to do the same. Once a week is fine by me coupled with an appearance from time to time showing him, for example, putting forward the knighthood for Colonel Tom. At some stage he will also provide headline news about EU Trade negotiations and the economic measures that are bound to follow.
A one trick pony like Comrade Corbyn would give me neither hope nor confidence in the fight against this virus but I would dutifully watch him in the hope that he would say something, anything in reality, that was useful and/or decisive.
