But the Barnard Castle incident, if it happened, took place on April 12th, the Guardian reports he travelled to Durham on 28th or 29th of March. So even if he did go to Barnard Castle this was after the 14 day quarantine period, and if for exercise was permitted at the time.oldbluefox wrote: 25 May 2020, 09:34It's trial by media at the moment. The trip to Barnard Castle is based on an allegation that somebody saw someone who looked like Cummings, jotted down his number plate and Googled it.
As I see it the best way out of it is to test the allegations and prove whether they are right or wrong. If Cummings has been lieing then he has to go. Starmer is naturally quiet as he has MPs who broke lockdown rules and nothing was done.

Re: Current Affairs
So we have an allegation that someone saw somebody who looked like Cummings, remembered part of the number plate, Googled it and came to the conclusion that it could have been one of the cars Cummings uses after he had come out of lockdown. Forgive me if I don't find that story convincing.

Re: Current Affairs
His wife was ill at the time that they drove to Durham and Cummings went down with it later. It would be stretching matters to say that he was out of quarantine and whether a drive of 30 miles was necessary for either exercise or essential shopping.towny44 wrote: 25 May 2020, 11:15But the Barnard Castle incident, if it happened, took place on April 12th, the Guardian reports he travelled to Durham on 28th or 29th of March. Whatever, he took himself and his family and the virus 260 miles upcountry at a time when virtually everybody else was doing what they could to reduce its spread.
If anybody believes this nonsense about wanting childcare for his son then there is a job waiting for them in 10 Downing Street.

The police are now doing a full check via anpr and phone data usage.
Evidence will putting it to bed.

All Cummings has to do is submit his Google Tracker info for scrutiny by an independent cross party group of no more than three or four people then he is proved innocent or guilty of the later trips. The End. If I was him and had nothing to hide, which may be the case, I'd do it like a shot.

Re: Current Affairs
Unprecedented.
A government aide giving a press conference.
Once the advisor becomes the story.......
Johnson said yesterday, live on tv, that the story of going to Barnard Castle was ‘palpably untrue’
Today we will find out.
The whole issue stinks and seriously questions the decision making of the PM.

Re: Current Affairs
For your info screwy, Devon and Cornwall police have issued 1,149 fines for breaking lockdown rules, mainly against incomers.
A simple anpr check shows where the vehicle is registered.
So , criminal matter remains to be seen.

Re: Current Affairs
Barney while I can agree that he was possibly wrong he is not in denial of going to Durham for whatever reason. The later allegations which taken at face value ,without concrete evidence are muck raking. Fines for breaking lockdown rules are not criminal unless you refuse to pay it,a bit motoring or littering. As for the police checking anpr for this purpose it seems a waste of Police time, sure they have better things to do.
