Idiots.
They'll learn the hard way when they get the virus or pick it up without realising and pass it onto some other poor unsuspecting soul. Young or old!

If you're on shielding brace yourselves for longer at home because of idiots like this. I wonder how many will not be sending their children to school because they say it's not safe?

Re: Current Affairs
They announced late last night that shielded people can now go out with family members from the same house or meet one friend.
There’s no indication why the ‘science’ now says this ok, the government just says it’s is now ‘safe’.
10pm on a Saturday night seems a really weird time to make an announcement. Seems like another dead cat thrown on the table to divert attention.
Personally, I would ignore this government announcement if I was in the shielded group. It looks less safe out there than it was in March.
EDIT - soon they’ll be saying it’s ok for the over 70s to go on cruise ships!

I do hope so, we would love to go on our Sept cruise, and if that's not possible then maybe our Feb one will be fine.Gill W wrote: 31 May 2020, 09:08They announced late last night that shielded people can now go out with family members from the same house or meet one friend.

There seems no logic in what they are doing other than for economic reasons....If this gets out of hand the next slogan will be "stay at home and die"Gill W wrote: 31 May 2020, 09:08They announced late last night that shielded people can now go out with family members from the same house or meet one friend.

How on earth can you relate allowing the shielded group outside with their household or one close friend, if they live alone, with improving the economy???!!!Onelife wrote: 31 May 2020, 09:30There seems no logic in what they are doing other than for economic reasons....If this gets out of hand the next slogan will be "stay at home and die"Gill W wrote: 31 May 2020, 09:08They announced late last night that shielded people can now go out with family members from the same house or meet one friend.

Since the majority of people have been following the social distancing advice, and even those who have bent the rules a little have in the main tried to avoid close contact with strangers, I believe it is reasonable for the govt to try and spread the lockdown relaxation as wide as possible. BUT they will be hoping that the majority do continue to show the same common sense in how they use these new freedoms.
Lets try to be positive for once and not always look for the negatives in everything.

What does it say to do if one's friend has a same house partner ?Gill W wrote: 31 May 2020, 09:08They announced late last night that shielded people can now go out with family members from the same house or meet one friend ....
Asking for a friend ( a different friend of course ) in case one's other friend's friend cannot decide what's best to do

Agreed. It seems a pity that a comment on the stupidity and selfishness of some people has to be turned into yet another political football and an opportunity for Boris bashing.towny44 wrote: 31 May 2020, 09:48Since the majority of people have been following the social distancing advice, and even those who have bent the rules a little have in the main tried to avoid close contact with strangers, I believe it is reasonable for the govt to try and spread the lockdown relaxation as wide as possible. My post had nothing to do with government policy, and was a comment on these people who were ignoring everything about social distancing so why not try to be positive instead of looking to make political statement?

Re: Current Affairs
I don’t know what it’s been like where you live but down here, lockdown is over.
The beaches were packed yesterday, in fact it was so busy that the police were turning people back because the roads were blocked and emergency services couldn’t get through.
They are expecting the same again today.
All of the takeaways are open although the shops and sit downs are still closed, as are the public toilets.
It was gridlock in Ilfracombe and Woolacombe.
I’d reckon that by July, everything will be back as if lockdown never happened.

We are currently at Alert Level 4
Loosening lockdown is an Alert Level 3 action.
Shielded people going out is an Alert Level 1 action.
They are now ignoring their own alert system - it’s a shambles.
I’m staying home. I’m not putting myself out there at moment.

Anecdotally, they’re not controlling their bladder now. They are ‘going’ in the bushes, in the dunes, and in people’s front gardens.Onelife wrote: 31 May 2020, 11:03And Looking for another positive they should all have better bladder control come Julybarney wrote: 31 May 2020, 10:50I don’t know what it’s been like where you live but down here, lockdown is over.

We have been told if we do a permitted visit to someone’s back garden and need to use the loo, we have to liberally disinfect all the surfaces afterwards.
Not sure how it’ll be safe to open public toilets, as that level of hygiene would be impossible to maintain, especially with the crowds that are flocking to the coast and beauty spots.
What a nightmare.

Shielded people are, in many cases, climbing the walls, after weeks of not going out. It's hard enough for those of us who have been able to go out occasionally for exercise or essential shopping. And for those of us with nice gardens to sit in. Imagine those in apartments who've been ordered to stay put for weeks.
No-one is forcing shielded people to go out now. Nor indeed telling others they should start playing golf or meeting families in open spaces. Simply that they can if they wish. Those who are nervous about doing so can stay home if they wish to do so.
The social media narrative is wonderful. It summarises as: "it's not safe for my children to go back to school or me to go to work or granny to come out of her bedroom, but when will the pubs open and why can't I fly to Benidorm next Tuesday?"
