Do you know which day 205000 tests were achieved? I normally check the figures each day and haven't seen anything that high. Yesterdays figure on the slide I posted was 115725. I don't think I've seen anything so significantly higher than that figure
Read my link, the headline states ...

Coronavirus: UK exceeds 200,000 testing capacitytarget

It's on the BBC website that I consider to be biased so it is a figure of value ... for me.

Added ... note that it says ' capacity ' rather than ' achieved ' but it is still a milestone of note.

Much better press questions today…. perhaps they’ve been tipped off that people are getting pissed off with their monotonous whining.

I totally understand that for some people who have been shielding it has been very difficult for them. The point I'm making is, why is it suddenly ok for them to go out now? The government's own alert system says they shouldn't go out until level one has been achieved. So the government have ignored their own system, for no apparent reason
My daughter, in her early 30s, is in the shielded group (she has to have 8-weekly biologic immunosuppressant infusions). She and her husband moved in with me just before lock down and we decided very early on to trust our judgement, which, BTW, bears no resemblance to that of Dominic Cummings. We have been going out in the last week or so, but only for a walk in the early evening to local places we know will be deserted. Our assessment of the risk of doing that is that it is zero - this virus is caught from people/surfaces, not fresh air. I agree the government has ignored its own system, but the system was a little eccentric in the first place.

Shielding must be very difficult for those on their own, but for us it's been fine; there's a vociferous minority of the shielded alleging that it's not fair, as if fairness was the issue - the issue is the safety of the shielded and they've been protected with a lot of help (apart from those in care homes, another story). We are, however, eternally grateful to those in the low-risk group, and that's most of you on here as well as millions of others, who have sacrificed quite a bit to keep her, and others like her, safe. Right now, I'm far more concerned about the long-term effects on those still working and the effect on the economy. Things need to be opened up gradually before we find ourselves in an economic disaster.

Shielded people are, in many cases, climbing the walls, after weeks of not going out. It's hard enough for those of us who have been able to go out occasionally for exercise or essential shopping. And for those of us with nice gardens to sit in. Imagine those in apartments who've been ordered to stay put for weeks.

No-one is forcing shielded people to go out now. Nor indeed telling others they should start playing golf or meeting families in open spaces. Simply that they can if they wish. Those who are nervous about doing so can stay home if they wish to do so.

The social media narrative is wonderful. It summarises as: "it's not safe for my children to go back to school or me to go to work or granny to come out of her bedroom, but when will the pubs open and why can't I fly to Benidorm next Tuesday?"
I totally understand that for some people who have been shielding it has been very difficult for them. The point I'm making is, why is it suddenly ok for them to go out now? Is it possible that because this is new territory for us all, that the govt are learning fast as things progress, and they now feel they can move forward a little earlier than anticipated a week or so back when this 5 step procedure was first mooted.
If so then I applaud them for being fast learners.

Well we’ll, it comes to light that the Labour mp for Canterbury has been breaking the lockdown by having her married lover coming to her home before moving in, she has done the decent thing and resigned as Labour whip.Hmm, not resigning from being an mp, maybe Sir know it all will give her the push...doubt it.

b) didn't invent some bonkers story about an eye test
c) didn't have coronavirus to spread and
d) apologised and resigned from her role.
she broke the rules of Marriage..! Did she apologise to her lovers wife.? Also a bit of a hypocrit where education is concerned. Opposes any New Grammar schools even though her 2 children went to Grammars. Of course, nothing will suit some people.
Regarding the rules of marriage, if you want to attack her on that basis, it’s real hypocrisy to support Boris Johnson. I look forward to your condemnation of him

I condemn anyone who cheats on their partner, regardless of stature. It’s a little bit galling in her case with the role she played in Women & Equalities.! She obviously didn’t give toss about a fellow woman.Your initial response suggests that your ok with it.Please don’t bother replying ,I just can’t be bothered .

Oh for heaven’s sake. How can you infer that I’m ok about people who cheat on their partners. Of course I’m not.

But I agree that I can’t be bothered anymore

Now for something totally different.......................
Has anyone noticed how well coiffured some of our politicians and news presenters are. Mrs Krankie and Naga Munchetty are two good examples where there is not a hair out of place and apparently both are cutting their own hair. I'm impressed. ;)
I haven't had a haircut in over two months. My hair is longer than it has been for 40 years or more but I don't trust myself with the shears especially around the back of my head. I wonder how everybody else is managing - Stephen excepted!!! ;)

I'm the same Foxy, I desperately need a trim but too cowardly to try using the clippers.
I guess if Pauline could use both hands I would let her try to trim my hair, but she says she likes my new look!!

Not sure at my age the hippy look suits me any longer.

I might have to take up Stephen's offer but I'm not paying London rates. We don't pay that sort of money up here in the norf.

I'll not be paying that much either but may I ask ... how often do you or Mrs S need to run the clippers round your bonse to avoid what I will call a ' Sticky-up in little Tufts ' look ?

ps ... cash is unwise cos the new plastic notes can carry the virus from hand to hand to mouth so free has to be best

It was in The Telegraph this morning, "Downing Street said it would not approve Labour's nomination of Mr. Bercow for elevation to the upper chamber because there were outstanding concerns about his 'propriety'."
'Katie Murphy, Mr. Corbyn's former chief of staff was also blocked for appointment to the Lords over an Equalities and Human Rights Commission investigation into alleged institutional anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.'
