What happened to George Floyd was despicable and heart breaking. The powerful voice of the world should ensure this crime doesn’t go unpunished…even in America.

Hear, hear.

A policeman knelt on George Floyd's neck for 9 minutes until he lost consciousness and died.

American police are using unreasonable force on peaceful protesters.

The American president is fanning the flames.

We can't just shrug our shoulders and look the other way.

I’ve just read that the other three officers involved have been charged with aiding and abetting murder. I don’t think this will wash with those demanding justice. George Floyd didn’t die from the actions of one brute (officer) he died by the actions of at least one other. If you watch the footage one of the other officers had his knee on his back which would have also have suppressed his ability to breath.

The image that really captivates this senseless loss of life is the one where the officer is kneeling on Floyd’s neck while he has his hand in his pocket  .

When any law enforcement officer losses his sence of respect for individuals then they are in the wrong job… irrespective of how much pressure they are under.

It is utterly sickening and I fully understand the peaceful demonstrations against the situation. It is sad that some of those are being hijacked by rent-a-mob as an excuse for mindless violence against other innocent people and their property.

Absolutely agree Sir Merv…. there was a news report last night Midlands Today? Where a graffiti artist had painted a “I can’t breathe” oxygen face on a wall. There was up roar afterwards due to the council having painted over it…. and then apologising for doing so.
I agree with peaceful protests but like you the point is lost completely when they resort to violence and imo when they start daubing paint all over street walls irrespective of the message they are trying to get across.

I have a question for a Banker, spelt with a ' B ', which is ...

If one wins on the Premium Bonds and has a cheque needing to be paid into a Bank but that person cannot drive to her Bank is it possible to post said winnings to a Bank together with a paying in slip ?

I am asking for a friend of a friend ... truly.

The safer way is to get a paying in envelope from the post office and follow the instructions on that. I know HSBC group have arrangements with the PO so I assume the other banks do as well.

Thanks for that ' Towny ', I will get Mobietta to phone one of the village stores who offer ' Pop-In ' type Post Office Services in the area to see if any progress can be made.

Yes, my local Post Office told me that you can pay in cheques to any bank there.

And another thought...

Why not have any winnings paid straight into your bank account?

Yes, it is possible to post a cheque to a bank, with a covering letter including the account details. However, to be honest I wouldn’t do it myself. Even if it’s addressed to a local branch, it might be automatically diverted to their mailing centre and go into a black hole for weeks.

Your friend could ask someone to take it into the bank for them, again with a covering letter with account details. But I suspect that the bank will want your friends bank card to swipe, so paying in a cheque on somebody’s behalf could be problematic.

If your friend uses online banking, many banks allow cheques to be paid in via the app - the cheque is scanned.

The cheque is valid for 6 months, so if all else fails, if lockdown is eased, your friend can get someone to drive them to the bank.

While Mobietta was trying to get a response I looked it up on the Post Office Website and located the page about getting a Cheque Paying-in Envelope - ish, a whole range of Banks apply including the Bank of one's friend ;)

Several weeks ago I looked at having my wife's prem bond winnings paid into our bank account, as mine are. I needed to have her prem bonds added to her online account but their website said she needed to write and request this, I also asked if they could arrange the bank transfer at the same time. An e-mail reply said covid would slow down their reply.
This week I had a confusing reply advising that our request to have winnings paid into the bank could not be done by letter but needed a phone call but I could also do it on line.
On checking on line I was surprised to find her prem bonds were now on her account, so I duly made the change to have winnings paid into the bank.
We are still waiting for confirmation that our request to have the prem bonds added to her account has been actioned.

NS&I are one of the worst bodies to deal with - they take so long to respond (even in normal circumstances) and get so much wrong.

When my mother-in-law died several years ago she had some (well actually a lot) of Premium Bonds and when my wife was getting them cashed in they sent the money to somebody else, even though they agreed that all the details supplied were correct.
