Re: Current Affairs
I think it would be good if the man who was rescued comes forward to publicly thank his rescuers. It would be symbolic. We are all the same under the skin.

They appear to be following government advice. As Sunak says 'My message is simple – get out there, get shopping'.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 15 Jun 2020, 15:52Just how stupid are some people? Is shopping so important?

By NOT observing social distancing, show us where Sunak said to spread the virus ?Gill W wrote: 15 Jun 2020, 16:07They appear to be following government advice. I on the other hand think it would be a far better idea if the rescued man said his heart felt thanks face to face with his rescuer. Celebrity via Twitter 'n' chums is the last thing he needs. It was a welcome act of kindness but it should not be hijacked in an attempt to over shadow the acts of vandalism engaged in by the BLM protesters.Gill W wrote: 15 Jun 2020, 16:04I think it would be good if the man who was rescued comes forward to publicly thank his rescuers. I didn't say that he said it's ok to spread the virus. However, he does seem quite keen on reducing the 2m rule.Manoverboard wrote: 15 Jun 2020, 16:15By NOT observing social distancing, show us where Sunak said to spread the virus ?Gill W wrote: 15 Jun 2020, 16:07They appear to be following government advice. Of course any thank you shouldn't overshadow vandalism by anybody - and it shouldn't overshadow the disgusting behaviour of the self appointed 'statue defenders' either.

If he hadn't been there counter protesting in the first place he wouldn't be in that predicament. No sympathy I'm afraid.

Has anybody else wondered if the ‘ rescuer ‘ was a serving plain clothed policeman rather than a BLM protester ?

I’m talking about those who were drunk at lunchtime and in confrontations with the police from the start, the ones who urinated in the street, the ones who did nazi salutes, the ones who invaded Hyde Park and spat over people in the middle of a pandemic and the ones who did monkey gestures.screwy wrote: 15 Jun 2020, 17:05I do hope you aren’t lumping the Veterans who were extremely well behaved into your point of disgusting behaviour.? If he’s a plain clothed policeman, it’d be a bold move, giving interviews to the media

Gill, you are preaching to the converted, I doubt any of us want to see that sort of behaviour, regardless of who or what they are protesting about.Gill W wrote: 15 Jun 2020, 18:38I’m talking about those who were drunk at lunchtime and in confrontations with the police from the start, the ones who urinated in the street, the ones who did nazi salutes, the ones who invaded Hyde Park and spat over people in the middle of a pandemic and the ones who did monkey gestures.screwy wrote: 15 Jun 2020, 17:05I do hope you aren’t lumping the Veterans who were extremely well behaved into your point of disgusting behaviour.? Re: Current Affairs
Lets put this to bed once and for all......Myself and Gill had a diagreement about why the Cenotaph needed protecting. After the antics previously there, ie, some girl who climbed onto it and tried to set alight the Union flag and another girl who tried to swing on the flag, Veterans cane together to stop any more attempted damage. The Cenotaph had a 8-10 feet hoarding put around it but was still easily vulnerable.
Cenotaphs and other War Memorials around the country were also vulnerable to the idiotic antics of a minority of Anarchists. Veterans and other decent minded folk came together over the weekend to prevent damage etc.
Cenotaphs/Memorials are Sacred to Veterans and the Military, as are Churches , Mosques, Temples etc
I do not condone the actions of the Far Right thugs, pissing on the memorial to a fallen Police Officer or the rest of the thuggish behaviour carried out. I also do not condone the actions of the Far Left or BLM protesters with their actions.
I am an ex serviceman/Veteran who has seen Collegues ,Killed and maimed. I dont take any delight in falling out with people but all i ask is for an understanding. Like i asked.. lets now put this to bed.

Re: Current Affairs
Very bold indeed, it was of course just a passing thought at the time of seeing an image of the event on a BBC Website.Gill W wrote: 15 Jun 2020, 18:42No.Manoverboard wrote: 15 Jun 2020, 17:46Has anybody else wondered if the ‘ rescuer ‘ was a serving plain clothed policeman rather than a BLM protester ?
If he’s a plain clothed policeman, it’d be a bold move, giving interviews to the media
Looking at the scene we have ( my first impressions ) a tall well built and extremely fit coloured guy, who’s stature suggested that he could have been from a slave blood line, he looked well groomed and educated rather than a drop out clinging to the poverty line. He carried the barrel of lard with consummate ease right in front of a line of unflinching Police Officers bearing shields and calmly continued to a place of safety. This was a feller used to being in control of his situation, he wasn’t a run of the mill protester and that’s for sure.
Then I read a report which contained information about him and his background, his work choices included IT and other specialities but none would have ruled out the Police Force or related services I thought. It was also reported that he rounded up a few friends ( colleagues ? ) and came down to London to ‘ protect ‘ the protesters if needs be.
Like I said ... just a few thoughts and observations.

Re: Current Affairs
A better image than the lout trying to burn the Union flag compared to the one who was swinging on it leading to veterans feeling a need to turn up to protect it along with louts from the far right just looking for a fight. It might have been better had our own police protected national monuments a little better two weeks ago.
I was taught to be cautious

Here’s hoping we never find ourselves needing to use it but the Golden Oldies will have a better chance than they would otherwise have had according to the scientist. Apparently, its being rolled across all hospital’s tomorrow.Manoverboard wrote: 16 Jun 2020, 13:40It also has a long list of serious side effects making it of doubtful value for you golden oldiesOnelife wrote: 16 Jun 2020, 13:15Great news!
