Re: Bird watching
Hi Happydays…. thanks for making a genuine enquiry as to the well-being of Susie, Molly and Maude, which is more than can be said for the two “old cocks” above.
Well I think its fair to say I’ve eaten more egg mayo sarnies this past few weeks than I have for the whole of last year…we’ve got so many eggs that I have started distributing then to the poorer families in the community..£1.50 half dozen…I can charge this because the old ones are afraid to leave the safety of their home due to covid….long may it continue.
If you recall Susie was a nasty piece of work often pinning Maude up against the fence while trying to remove some of Maude’s feathers, she wasn’t much better with Molly, but Molly being a little bit bigger was able to avoid most full on attacks.
Roll on a few weeks and things have changed dramatically with Molly now being top Chuck with Susie having to pick up the scraps. Maude, has developed the same characteristics as the ‘artful dodger’ in that she seizes every opportunity to fill her crop while the others aren’t looking…I like Maude as I share some of her characteristics.
Sleeping arrangements are quite funny…as you are probably aware, chickens are supposed to roost on bars but not our spoilt Huns…. Depending on who goes to bed last, they have to sleep two to a box, often with one half on top of the other due to limited space.
All three have imprinted themselves on my wife who can often be seen trotting round the garden with them…sad or what?
I’ll try a post a few photo’s later
Kind regards
Happy eggs

A photo of your good self with the chucks would also be good, tell you why ....
A while back Foxy asked ‘ What does OL look like ? ‘ he went on to say that he imagines that you are a short, fat bald bloke. Well, I explained delicately, I cannot possibly allow myself to breach a confidence but I will tell you that Stephen is the bald one.
So ... over to you then
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Just been having a nice cuppa in the conservatory and low and behold we have just been treated to an aerial display of newly fledged House Martins

Think all the birds have fledged, as they’re ignoring the feeders. It’s that, or they don’t like what we’ve put out for them.

Can’t quite make out if this is a Blackbird or a Thrush
....what do you think it is?
Took this photo this morning, it's been sitting on two eggs for over a week now so we should have chicks by the weekend. The nest is situated but five foot up in our hedge.

If it's a bird rather than a strange twig, then it's a collared something or other, but no idea what.
