It was eventually cut free and although if was visibly on its last legs it did manage to swim away.
Anyway, this prompted a discussion with my daughter who told me that the Sperm Whale has the loudest vocal sound of any mammal, capable of puncturing your ear drums should you be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’ve just looked it up and apparently a jet engine noise comes in at 188 decibels while a Sperm Whale communicative clicks have a reading of 230 decibels.
You really wanted to know that didn’t you?
P.s the clicks can be detected from 500 miles away.
