Bring back Theresa I say
Strange you should mention Theresa.

She was absolutely seething in Parliament this morning when she asked why the new National Security Advisor was a political appointee with no proven expertise in National Security. And the looks she was giving Gove when he responded - I'm surprised he wasn't turned to stone!!

I think it's safe to say she's not very impressed by this latest development.
She was indeed Gill and if it wasn’t for the fact that I do believe the Civil Service needs a shakeup I would singing her praises again... I still admire the lady though

Its ironic that she gets so much stick especially when you consider Brexit wouldn’t have happened without her massive input…. but hey! you don’t want to hear that do you? ;) :)
Well I hope you are restocking your tins, as today is the last day we can ask for an extension to the transition period!

4/5 weeks ago, we were in the peak of the pandemic… what would you have had the teachers do…wear full PPE?
Many teachers are within the vulnerable age group and for that reason alone they had every right to question the government imo.
But the govt were not advocating schools should open 5 weeks ago, they were proposing 2/3 weeks later, but only if things continued to improve, and thus with the proviso if they didn't they would reconsider.
I’ve lost track of what the government are advocating it become more like the wishy-washy factory.
Really that's only because you would prefer Theresa was still in charge. For me the govt have done what Boris set out at the very beginning of this pandemic which was to follow the science and allow that to determine their evolving policy. Those who have made comparisons with when and what other countries did, seem to be those who dislike Boris and want his govt to fail whatever he does.

I think that when this is all over you will hear that the government used its own interpretation of some of the science to make decisions…. science and economic needs rarely sit cosily together.

As for Boris…well you can’t but like the chap which I think bodes well for our future trade negotiations but there is part of me that thinks he will be a better PM in that role than in this.

Leicester = classic Government can't win conundrum..

Lockdown announced. Mayor says it's not fast enough. Local trader asks why they're being picked on.

I believe the lady, Theresa not you, protests too much. The outgoing appointee was appointed by..... drum roll.... Theresa May. Which wasn't a bit political of course.

Isn’t that the same with all cabinet choirs?…you appoint a conductor that will play the tunes that the choir likes…so for the countries benefit lets hope Boris can make sweet music with his appointee.

Sedwill has been with TM since 2013, and his finger prints are apparently all over the hard nosed policy to deport failed asylum seekers and non UK passport holders, culminating in the Windrush scandal.

There can be no excuses for the way Windrush was handled and it is well documented as to how it came to be…which includes those of us who were at the time calling out for tighter controls over immigration.

Police and Crime Commissioner in Leicester having a whinge. One guess which party he represents. This is what hacks me off. This isn't a time for political point scoring. We will only get through this if we pull together.

Nice to see some of the citizens of Leicester reacting responsibly in Leicester today. Not!!!
Ignore the officials and talk to the man in the street and he will tell you why Covid19 is rife in Leicester whether it be sweat shop factories, high density housing, housing of multiple occupancy or lack of social distancing during Eid and the BLM protests. So sad for those who have followed the guidelines and for the businesses trying to pick up after the lay off.

It’s amazing what she did achieve considering a third of the party were remoaners and the other two thirds didn’t know what they wanted…. Pathetic waste of space the lot of them.

Sorry Gill…I’ve just scrolled up and found your post.

My wife has gone crazy… the freezer is choc-a-bang as are four large plastic containers…she said she’s preparing for a bad winter.

I didn’t realise it was the last day we could ask for an extension but Boris has said all along that we are leaving with, or without a deal, which it has to be said, is the only language our overseas friend understand…it’s just a shame Theresa didn’t have the united backing of her cabinet as she could have gone with a much stronger hand.

Come December I hope we can all leave the baggage of Brexit behind us as it will be then that we start a new chapter in our history.

If I had some advice for our government it would be that they must do their very best for the poorest in society as it will be they who decide which party takes us through what is going to be years of very turbulent waters…gawd help us all if the labour party gets in.

As Johnson ran his entire election campaign on the basis of there being an oven ready deal, I think there’ll be an awful lot of people out there who will bemused if there is no deal in place when the transition period ends in six months time.

I’m now assuming that there will be no deal in place, and I am preparing accordingly. Our chief negotiator starts his new job in 2 months time, and they will be on their summer holidays anyway, so not much will be happening. It was always a huge ask to find an agreement in one year, and that was without COVID19

In my heart of hearts I want to believe that the government would not inflict a no deal on us, when the country is already on its knees due to COVID 19 and likely in the middle of a winter spike of infections.

But I feel it is possible, even probable that this will happen, so must prepare as best I can.
