Ignore the officials and talk to the man in the street and he will tell you why Covid19 is rife in Leicester whether it be sweat shop factories, high density housing, housing of multiple occupancy or lack of social distancing during Eid and the BLM protests. So sad for those who have followed the guidelines and for the businesses trying to pick up after the lay off.
No one will publicly say that for fear of the racist card being played. On the other hand I've seen suggestions it happened because the government didn't translate their messages into minority languages. I know there are some in the minority communities who don't speak English but there are plenty who are born and bred here and speak it fluently. You'd think with something so crucial they might have passed it on. In fact probably did. But that doesn't suit the opposition narrative.

A basic ability to speak, read and understand English should be a prerequisite for UK citizenship

According to this site there were 829 new cases today. Depressing news but after the events of the past few weeks hardly surprising. We have only ourselves to blame.

Thanks, Foxy…but I’ve been searching for hospital admissions which seem to have disappeared from any of the government/NHS web pages. As discussed before I think the hospital admissions are a better indicator as to where we are with this virus.

The daily infection figures released by the government are only the lab tested cases (pillar 1) and at present don’t include pillar 2. Therefore the government figures understate what is really going on.

I can’t see anywhere that readily gives up to date hospital admissions data.

With the ending of daily briefings and information being tucked away, it’s almost as if the government wants to move on. No wonder there’s people out there who think it’s all over.

You and I don't think it's all over so why should anybody else ... regardless of what the Government are/aren't doing ?

I can't imagine those who are thick enough to think it's all over watched the daily briefing anyway.

And even if they did, would they have understood what was being said, or thought it was a weird game show?

And if they take the attitude they'll take their chances would it make any difference? You can't argue with stupidity and ignorance.

I’ve just put my name forward for Gavin Williamsons soon to be vacant job.

Let’s get the kids back to school is the cry …well if they are wanting them back at school, they should start coming up with some sensible workable plans…

The most sensible plan would be to stream children on their ability irrespective of their age and them allocate one class room for each group thereby cutting down on the need to move from one class room to the other. A few teachers roaming the corridors has less risk than hundreds of kids going from one class room to another.

Let me know if you’re willing to give me a reference  :D

You have to show a bit of feeling for the folks in Leicester, it's almost as if the outside world thinks maybe they should walk around ringing a liittle bell. Certainly the papers are reporting calls for Leicester people to not visit seaside towns.
I hope they (Leicester folk) bite the bullet and get it under control soon, and are then able to enjoy the easing of the lock down.
Don't worry, be happy

Well, to be fair Onelife, you are probably better qualified than Williamson to do the job.

He has no discernable talent other than managing to blag himself jobs.

Your idea , although not new, is obviously workable.

A school in Kent has set up marquees on the playing fields as classrooms. That is the kind of lateral thinking that is needed.
It's a win/win as the Marquee company currently have no customers.

Given that virtually every business has figured out a way to reopen safely while complying with guidelines, it's beyond comprehension that head teachers lack the ability to do similar.

Where there is a will etc.

I don't want to be the voice of doom stephen, but regional spikes are going to be a biproduct of life getting going again.
it's absolutely inevitable.

We have had virtually no cases here in North Devon but know that this will probably increase a bit as the tourists arrive.
We have friends who have three cottages that they let and are fully booked from next week.
Given that they have a rather hefty mortgage and have had no income for three months, it doesn't take a genius to work out that this situation cannot continue ad infinitum.

All we can hope is that when it comes, it won't be too bad and anyone who contracts the virus doesn't get it too severely.

Maybe the peak has passed because the most vulnerable are no longer with us?

Hi Barney…I’ve decided to dispense with the rhetoric of “we started lock down two weeks late and restarted it two weeks early” because there’s only so many days in a month we can keep talking about it….its happened so time to move on, if however, Gill or anyone else wants to bring it up again I will more than likely support them  …chirpy, chirpy, creep, creep.

As you say Barney this situation can’t go on indefinitely and I’m afraid some are going to have to come under the heading of collateral damage before all this gets sorted.

My biggest concern is for those with mortgages who may end up losing their jobs…I’m just hoping the government will implement something that will stop repossessions happening. Failure to do this could see hundreds of thousands needing a tent.
