New Spam Email (Television Licence)

Unread post by david63 »

Just had a quite convincing email about TV Licensing and almost fooled me as the over 75s licence is changing anytime now.

The one bit that had me concerned was to switch to a licence by email - not really sure what that meant as out licence was/is paid by direct debit.

Beware if you get this email - it is spam

The real TV Licensing department would surely send one a letter ... it would also have one's unique code on it.

Not necessarily - ours has been electronic for quite a few years now

But it presumably still has your addressing details and a unique code ?

Those TV Licensing spam emails are quite convincing.

A couple of years ago, I had one, inviting me to click 'here; for a refund of an overpaid TV licence. I was in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean at the time, and had paid my TV Licence shortly before going on my cruise. For a moment, it looked genuine, then I realised it wasn't addressed to me by name and it had a few mis-spellings. Also, I didn't recognise the reference number. As I was on my phone, I couldn't do that thing where you hover the mouse over the link to see where it would take you.

Anyway I deleted it.

Ours is paid by direct debit and is stored in cyber space. I got email too but I knew ours was sorted and up to date.

I got the email too but ours is paid by John using direct debit so it went straight to Spam. Have been getting several emails recently sent by people with unusual names asking me to press the link to keep me on a mailing list I apparently joined. All of them have a long email address ending with .eu. There are names like - Nelke Wagenaar, Kelsey Verbeke - they look a bit Dutch to me. I'm doing my best to get them filtered out before they arrive. Most of them have titles like 'A reminder for you' meaning I need to click on the link to keep my name on the list for whatever that is. A nuisance!
