Click 'n' Collect at Waitrose ?

Unread post by Manoverboard »

It's about Shopping in Waitrose .... any first hand knowledge ?

Problem is that we are very reluctant to enter the store at this point in time but we are also far too aware of the treats they have in there. We are thinking of doing a £40> Click 'n' Collect from a Waitrose Store with sensible Parking, not easy hereabouts. Anyhow I know about Favourites, Baskets, Time Slots and the need to head for a designated area within the Car Park. We arrive at, say, 09:55am for a 10:00 to 11:00am slot.

On arrival do we phone the store and wait for up to an hour for a ' partner ' to arrive at the car with one's goodies or do we have to use an app to communicate with them or something else, please. How does it work in real time ?

How do I collect my Waitrose Click & Collect order?
You or a family member, friend or volunteer over the age of 18 can pick up your waitrose.com grocery Click & Collect order. The person collecting the order must have the order confirmation number and a form of ID with them (either a debit or credit card, passport, driving licence or utility bill). Once you arrive at the shop, please approach the Partner at the store entrance and they will advise on how to make your grocery collection.

If you have a problem with an item in your shopping, please email our customer service team at customerserviceteam@waitrose.co.uk.

Is the grocery Click & Collect service contactless?
Each of our shops has strict social distancing measures in place and we are trying to ensure all visits are as contactless as possible. Some of our shops are offering a car-park collection service or are able to bring your order out to you (these shops are displaying signage if this option is available). If the shop is unable to offer this additional service, please approach the Partner at the store entrance and they will advise on how to make your grocery collection.

Thank you, I have actually read all that but it is, for me, incomplete ;)

The store that we would like to use does exactly that but the Waitrose blurb does not explain if there will be a ' Partner ' located in a position within the Car Park waiting to arrange for the shopping to be put into the back of the car .... it only explains that one may need to go to the store entrance to talk to a ' Partner ' and this we do not wish to do.

I think it depends on the set up of each individual store.

I've been doing a Sainsbury's click and collect, and there's a Sainsbury's van in the shopping centre car park, fully signposted. You can turn up at any time within your 30 minute time slot, and the assistant brings the boxes to the car and we load up. We've not needed to go anywhere near the store.

You could phone the store and see what the procedure is for your Waitrose.

Another alternative is to do an online shop with Ocado, who are currently partnered with Waitrose. Ocado have increased the delivery slots available, and are now accepting new customers. We've recently been advised that we can now order with Ocado, and will be doing so soon, for some Waitrose goodies.

Ocado are ending their partnership with Waitrose in September, and are teaming up with M&S. I find the thought of getting M&S delivered to my door even more exciting than Waitrose.

You are correct Gill .... and our Store of choice has, since I raised this Topic, added extra detail ...

It previously stated " New Car Park Collect service available here "

Now they have added to that ;

" When you arrive, park in one of our dedicated bays and a Partner will greet you and bring your shopping out to you "

Was it a pure coincidence or was it the email that they have yet to respond to ?

It’s a lot simpler having Waitrose deliver to your home (or any other address if you want). We have been having a weekly delivery for over a year now and it works very well. Unlike other supermarkets Waitrose do not have a delivery charge but there is a minimum order value of £60. Delivery slots are just one hour.

In your area maybe , during these past 5 months I have only been able to book one single delivery slot !!!

We do however have a weekly delivery from Sainsbugs, Waitrose is top up treats plus ' favourite ' wines when on offer.

Delivery therefore is a complete No-No for us hence we are presently looking at their ' Click and Collect ' options.

I experienced the most unbelievably selfish woman at Sainsburys today. They have the usual set up as outlined above. Instead of parking in any of the four available spaces beside the van being used for the click and collect she drove against the marked arrows through the car park. She then stopped in the middle of the roadway between the parking rows and opened her driver's door ( on the side away from the van) and left it wide open. She then walked round the other side and opened the door there, completely blocking the roadway to everyone else. Then she opened the hatchback and went to the van to request her shopping. Needless to say the car was a large SUV. I'm afraid if I'd been the staff member I'd have told her to park properly or shove her shopping.

Selfish people like that tend to be selfish in many aspects of their life and as a result don’t have good friends, just false friends of the same ike…you just have to keep smiling Sir Merv… I’m sure you’ve had many a good friend over the years…that’s your payback for people like her.

A refresh if I may ...

We have got as far as knowing that, for our Store of choice ;

" A New Car Park Collect service is available "

... and that ...

" When you arrive, park in one of our dedicated bays and a Partner will greet you and bring your shopping out to you "

Waitrose claim to be aiming for a ' contactless experience ', they also advise that payment will be taken from one's card on the morning of the collection date. That's great but they also advise, in their latest blurb, that they will need to see your ID, the Card used for the transaction plus the confirmation e-mail which is hardly ' contactless '. Question is therefore do they actually do that ... or not ?

You do seem to be making a bit of a Shakespearean tragedy out of a simple click and collect outing Moby.

I was nervous on my first shopping experience. I'd say give it a go Moby. Sounds okay to me. Just to be sure wear your mask, goggles, a carrier bag over your head, duffel coat, rubber gloves and wellingtons. And burn them all after.

I was apprehensive when I first ventured out (still am to a certain extent) especially when not knowing what procedures are in place. As far as click and collect is concerned (if you are one that falls into the vulnerable category) then I would want to know what system was in place before going.

Or you could do what I get my wife to do which is get her to wait up until midnight when most of the home delivery slots become available. She's got it down to a T now, she hasn’t woken me the last three times when coming to bed

P’s its our 34th wedding anniversary today and just to keep her being nice to me I gave her a cuppa in bed, a rose and a 100 m bottle of chanel No 5…how nice is that?

Heavens above ... that is the most sensible thing you've posted in ages, I am impressed :sarcasm:

Seriously though, we are vulnerable and would be much happier to go after getting some reassurance from somebody who has actually tried this new system out before us. This is deffo NOT the time to be a guinea pig and so we will continue to hope and pray that a delivery slot will become available within our lifetime.

Thanks OL and a Very Happy Anniversary to you both  +

As I mentioned yesterday. I've used the Sainsbury's click and collect.

It's paid for online, when you order, and on collection, they've never asked to see any Id or the confirmation email, they just ask for my name

If Waitrose do insist, I would just hold up my phone with the email on screen or my payment card, at a social distance.

The workers themselves don't want any unnecessary contact, so they don't want to be handling everyone's cards and emails.

A click and collect is a good first step in getting out and about again. I've been doing if for about 2 months now and I think it's very good.

As a side point, I think it's quite a big issue that a lot of people have spent the last 4 months inside, and have lost a lot of confidence about going out. My friend was telling me about her mum, who has spent the 4 months at home, with everything delivered, and now won't leave the house for even a short walk. The mum is only 72, so no great age, either.

It's definately daunting to get out there again, but when you do, it 's a mixture of happiness that you've done it, and sadness that everything has changed so munch.

Our next planned activity is a walk to Marks & Spencer, tomorrow morning, as early as possible so that it's still quiet. We'll have coffee and then see if we can find something to buy with our Sparks treats.

Sound words Gill ...

I have done ' Click ‘n’ Collect ' with Waitrose many times but only to collect one’s pre-paid cases of wine, these trips to coincide with a food shop for Mobietta as she thinks Waitrose is a ‘ proper ‘ shop. On every single occasion they have demanded the confirmation e-mail, the card used for the transaction and one’s ID. All done in store prior to the pandemic of course but this is why I would prefer to have some comment on the basis of ‘ did do ‘ rather than ‘ should be ‘.

Confidence could be a factor for some but neither Mobietta or myself are lacking in confidence nor are we concerned about going out of the house per se but we are undoubtedly afraid of the consequences of coming into contact with someone who has the virus because we are inclined to believe that we would be unlikely to survive the respirator.
