Re: BT Broadband Upgrade ...
Yesterday I sorted out one's new BT Hub Wi-Fi details on Mobietta’s Tablet using ye olde manual method which of course was simplicity itself but also re-checked one’s Broadband Speed to discover that there had been some activity somewhere ‘ along the line ‘ because my readings has now plummeted to DL 15.4 / UL 1.04
This morning there was a BT e-mail waiting to be read. It tells me that the Upgraded Service will commence on July 16th, that speeds will fluctuate until that date and that the estimated speed will be 49-50 / 8-9 but that one’s “ Stay Fast download speed is: 44 Mbps. “ Most importantly, for us, it also advised “ We don't need to visit to get your broadband working “
Hallelujah ..... and thank you once again to all of you who helped me in our hour of need
If I’m not too busy
I may revise the passwords on the TV and SKY Box today, or tomorrow, possibly using WPS and Mobietta as the one’s ‘runner ’.

Has anyone got FTTP? currently open reach are digging up our footpaths enabling them to extend the current fibe from the box in the road ( 200 m away) it will entail a new cable coming into the house. I wonder what happens from there, particularly as it will not be entering in the same spot as the existing copper cable

Do you now have a hole in your window frame for the cable to enter and trail round your kitchen ?

We have Virgin Media top bundle and I get speeds of 160/20 on my iPad which is plenty for my needs. We have cable to the house but the complication is that we have common access over our neighbours’s land and we wouldn’t want to be negotiating wayleaves again.Ray Scully wrote: 07 Jul 2020, 14:05Has anyone got FTTP? currently open reach are digging up our footpaths enabling them to extend the current fibe from the box in the road ( 200 m away) it will entail a new cable coming into the house. But that is then using wi-fi which is dependant many other factors.
The only true way to do a speed check is to plug your device into the incoming terminal block.

Indeed, which is why I mentioned iPad. My point is that I am getting these rates even though it is on an iPad through WiFi which is itself 5GHz and capable of several hundred Mb/s.david63 wrote: 09 Jul 2020, 09:26But that is then using wi-fi which is dependant many other factors.

It is tomorrow, the 16th July
Meanwhile I looked up the Menus on SKY and located ‘ Networks ‘ easily enough but couldn’t work out how one was supposed to change the router / hub and / or the password .... any ideas ?
ps ... tried pushing the WPS button on the SKY BOX but it just ignored me

Is the "new" router connected? If it is then it will be in the list of available connections. If it is not connected then you will not see it antwhereManoverboard wrote: 15 Jul 2020, 11:14couldn’t work out how one was supposed to change the router / hub and / or the password .... any ideas ?

There is not a list as one would reasonably expect ... like wot there was on Mobietta's Tablet for example.david63 wrote: 15 Jul 2020, 11:26Is the "new" router connected? If, and I do stress if, I am looking in the right ' Networks ' location within the SKY Menus it displays only the previous one but does not seem to offer anything to click on to facilitate a change to the new one.

My advice would be to take a beer or glass of wine into the garden and ask Mobietta to tell you when she's fixed it.

Have finally identified how to manoeuvre the SKY Menus but setting it up manually failed cos SKY can only work with Capital letters

I think you should be looking in the internet access accounts, which on a windows laptop/PC show up on the right side of the taskbar, under the wi-fi symbol. On a tablet or phone they are in settings.Manoverboard wrote: 15 Jul 2020, 11:59There is not a list as one would reasonably expect ... like wot there was on Mobietta's Tablet for example.david63 wrote: 15 Jul 2020, 11:26Is the "new" router connected? Re: BT Broadband Upgrade ...
On the SKY Box the solution to changing a router/hub and its password is achieved by selecting the ' Manual set up ' option within Settings/Network. If there are two of you or if the device is near the SKY Box then easy peasy otherwise you need to think outside the box ... literally. See my postings above ?towny44 wrote: 15 Jul 2020, 14:42I think you should be looking in the internet access accounts, which on a windows laptop/PC show up on the right side of the taskbar, under the wi-fi symbol. SKY will work without Broadband but sans ' Catch Up ' and the usual crap displayed in the lower half of the screen.

I thought I understood that your new hub was already working and providing your internet access? If so is it currently linked to your TV and providing the internet connection for catch up and box sets etc?Manoverboard wrote: 15 Jul 2020, 15:01On the SKY Box the solution to changing a router/hub and its password is achieved by selecting the ' Manual set up ' option within Settings/Network. If you will be switching hubs then from memory your TV will search for the available internet sources, and as long as you know the new hubs ID reference, then it should be a doddle.

Have you got a SkyQ box Moby? I have and Network connection under the Status tab takes you to Network set-up which has a reset button. Network set up shows my broadband provider (BT) and that I am connected to the router and internet I apologise if someone has already suggested this route and also that I am unwilling to press the reset button as I don’t want to bu**** up my settings. I confess I’ve been following your meanderings but not sure if you’ve “done it” yet

My new hub is indeed up and running and is linked to my PC via an Ethernet cable which of course supplies the internet. All our other devices are not linked unless or until I set them up. Mobietta's Tablet and SKY are now connected and Catch Up works aok but one's TVs are not, nor do we need them to be, cos we don't subscribe to any of that Netfix / Prime type crap offerings.

I don't have a SkyQ box but I do have a ' WPS ' buttton on the front of my SKY box albeit I only have one minute to get from ' it ' to the PC once it has been pushed and that is totally impossible. I opted therefore to use SKY's Menus and taking that route it directed me to press the ' WPS ' button on the Hub, following that Mobietta pushed ' Select ' on the Remote.
ps ... I did a ' Reset ' upon advice received in this place and wiped by disc clean on the DVD

It's not unusual for us rural types to get messages about a lost internet service. We just ignore them, have a cuppa and when we return everything is working ok again
