Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
We have a new pet, well I say new, it's been around for ages. The hedgehog has started turning up in the back garden the last few mornings around 6.30 sniffing around the borders. We only ever got the occasional glimpse of it after dark. It looks really healthy. This morning it was enjoying its first measured out meal of dried hedgehog pellets along side a shallow dish of rain water.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
They have a Hedgehog Club ( think society rather than large stick ) in the village and publish a newsletter containing all sorts of useful tips / ideas about keeping them safe. Cat food rather than pellets is one of their foodie recommendations.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
He/she wasn't too fussy this morning as it cleared the bowl. Yes, cat or dog wet food is one of the recommendations but also dried food as well. Apparently they don't like fish flavoured food.
We will stick with the dried food for the time being which it seems to like, making sure there is fresh water beside it. Hedgehogs are like Houdini, there one minute gone the next.

Mobietta says to say that there will probably be a ' Hedgehog Group ' in your area too if you needed any more info ...

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
Tell Mobietta thank you. We'll see how we go to start with. I'm sure good old Google will throw up something for our area.
I mentioned to Mrs S about making a cover for the food out of some wood I have tucked away in the garage. It'll probably turn into a penthouse suite. But then perhaps not, I'm not that good at woodwork

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
Well the shelter is built, but so far just to give shelter to the food from the weather when left overnight. Once the hog has got use to using it I'll adapt it for winter hibernation.
You watch, the bu99er won't return now I've spent all morning working for its benefit.

I lied, it turns out 'Harry' did eat all his food. My old mincers were viewing from upstairs. That's my excuse anyway.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
No other cat would dare show its face with Monty around. If it were our Monty there'd be nothing left, whereas Harry leaves tiny leftover bits in both the food and water bowl.
I think a wildlife camera will be on the Christmas list this year. I did buy one a few years ago which wasn't very successful. All I captured was a vague image of Monty wondering around at night and a close up of his face right in front of the lense.
