That’s incredible.
You thought your lot were doomed at one time but I was pretty sure the Cowleys would have enough to keep you up.

Re: Football 2019/20
Don't know if it was their style or the players, but we were terribly inconsistent. I believe it was a clash between them and the owner as to the way forward for the club that lost them their job, I am just hoping that Corboran brings a little Spanish flair to our style of play. In the last 15 years we have only really had one good dominant season, that was the promotion year with Wagner, and even then we scored few goals, had a negative goal difference, and needed penalty shoot outs to win the playoffs.barney wrote: 27 Jul 2020, 22:34That’s incredible.

The style of football is only important to the fans.
From the pros point of view, it’s all about results.
Our league two championship seasOn under MadDog Allen was pretty dire hoofball but come May, we didn’t care

Re: Football 2019/20
Style of football was crucial for me, the season I decided not to renew my season ticket we won promotion to the Championship, but the quality of our football was dire, as it had been for the previous 5 years. Never regretted it, even when under Wagner we made it to the PL.barney wrote: 29 Jul 2020, 08:13The style of football is only important to the fans.

Re: Football 2019/20
After getting over the shock of dropping to League 2 I enjoyed our year there away from the rather plastic razzmatazz of the Prem back to the roots of football. I found the football less technical but more entertaining, nice to see young talent coming through and some of the old fading stars, friendly crowds who had nothing to prove and proper stadiums where you could still get a pie and a Bovril at less than inflated corporate prices.
For me this was a return to football before all the money men came in and took it away from being a sport and being a business.
We now have a Thai billionaire owner but we are not in the league of some of our Prem neighbours who spend ridiculous amounts of money on players on equally inflated salaries whom you never hear of again, have bloated playing staffs and whose owners are rarely seen. Ours is present at most matches, takes a real interest in the team, is generous towards the supporters and has pumped large amounts of money into the city of Leicester, especially the hospital. We must have one of the best owners, if not the best in the Prem.
However I shall never forget that time we spent in league 2 with genuine supporters.
On the subject of supporters I have not seen my team for the past five years. When we were struggling I could get a ticket any time but my place has now been taken by the glory boys who will no doubt desert us once our fortunes fade.

Re: Football 2019/20
Charlton must be the best example of that Foxy.
Full house in the Prem.
11k in the Championship
6 or 7k in League One.
I knew a little crowd of guys who were Charlton season ticket holders and when they were relegated, all switched to Fulham.
They were not Charlton or Fulham fans but just loved to see the big teams.
Very strange through my eyes.
I couldn't watch anyone but the Gills.

I feel exactly the same. Although I moan about them I couldn't support any other team. I always used to say I had followed them through thin and thinner. You get used to disappointment but when we are successful it feels all the better. I don't get the attraction of supporting the big teams unless there is some emotional attachment. I remember going to Old Trafford and buses arriving from all over the country. I still fail to understand that other than people like to attach themselves to a successful team and like the experience of winning.

Re: Football 2019/20
I know exactly what you mean.
When The Emirates opened, my lad took me as a treat to see Arsenal play someone or other.
I know it cost a blooming fortune but the overall experience seemed less than I was used to at Priestfield.
Devoid of proper atmosphere and quite clearly, many tourists.
We had our little ritual of meeting up in the bar in the ground called The Factory.
Have a couple of pints and put the footballing world to rights.
Take your seat seconds before kick off.
Go to the loo fifteen minutes into the game.
Complain, moan and whinge about the biased ref for ninety minutes and slate the linesman for missing an absolutely obvious offside.
Drive home either elated or down in the dumps.
Pull up on the drive and forget about it until next week.
I really miss proper football since I've moved.
I went to Bideford Town twice but to be honest, I reckon I could have got in their side , even with my bionic knees.
But, I suppose, to their die hards, it's all about the experience.

Re: Football 2019/20
I was listening to the Brentford chairman this morning.
What a refreshing change to the normal football chairman.
Quite humble and interesting.
They were talking about the famed Moneyball system that they used a few years back.
He said they are still very much stat driven when it comes to signing new players.
I’m amazed other championship teams don’t use it.
A few years back, there were three absolutely outstanding players in league one.
John Egan, Romaine Sawyer and Bradley Dack.
Dack was on a long contract and would cost, but the other two were coming up to end of contract so they picked them both up for zip.
Egan has been sold at great profit and is now captain of Sheffield and Ireland.
Gills got the pittance of the development fee.
Dack will end up in the prem is he recovers ok from his ACL injury . 20% sell on clause

Could be an idea although it didn't work out for him at Burnley so maybe not.
(I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure!!!)

I recently recorded the game between us Hornets and you Foxes, you remember the one it's where Deeney got a last minute goal. If you fancy popping round to watch it just say

Was that the one where they all wore baggy shorts and it's recorded in black and white?

Re: Football 2019/20
I watched my first game for ages yesterday.
A friendly between Colchester and Gillingham.
It was online with only one camera angle but it was an entertaining game played at a good pace unlike normal preseason friendlies.
We have so many new players it was hard to see who was who but our two Arsenal loanees looked a class above. Twenty year olds and the centre back was 6’5.
I think we’ll win the league this season despite Sunderland, Portsmouth, Ipswich, Hull, Wigan, Peterborough.........

I see that Watford have given their new manager a one year contract

As if he’s going to last that long!
Good pedigree though, straight from the football stronghold of Israel
