Yes I had a MK2 Cortina as well. That saw some action I can tell you ;)
I didn’t think the front passenger seat reclined on the MK2 Cortina? ;)
He had a roof rack....
I think he was thinking more along the lines of a quickie...not taking him her on holiday

Enough of this rust bucket nonsense. Let's get back to the fun business of Covid.

I must admit I was sceptical of Russian claims to have developed a successful vaccine. It seems my concerns were unfounded and it has in fact been fully tested on 76 people.

Out of 176 million - pretty good sample. Also from what I have heard most of those (if not all) 76 are part of the plutocracy

So the government announced that five and a half thousand people who died from covid actually didn’t.
Yet another no s*it Sherlock moment from this omnishambles.
How someone who tested positive in February but died after being run over in June could be recorded as a covid death is beyond belief.
Another in the very long line .......

Barney, are the heads of PHE govt ministers or civil servants? Whichever it is my understanding is that they wrote the rules, well at least I hope so, I would hate to think that Boris had to watch over every CS to ensure they do their job correctly.

That's always the mantra of opposition politicians and the left wing media, but you and I know it is impossible to police every single CS action, which amount to hundreds or thousands a week, some of which might even be done deliberately, like the sieve like leaks that regularly flow into the Guardian website.
Nope, Boris and his buddies are doing their best in difficult times, and we must thank whichever Gods we pray to that its him and not Jeremy and his comrades.

We knew from the outset that there were ' vagaries ' regarding the recordings of death by COVID, I even posted one example myself but what did the comrades do to suggest improvement to the system in place ... as usual zilch, far easier to sit back and moan about it and then to twaddle on and on with the powers of hindsight.

And assuming that maybe only 5% of those might have contracted Covid anyway that means that if the trial was 100% successful the vaccine maybe saved 4 people. Outstanding work.

I’m sure it would have been a case of ‘God help us all’ if Jeremy had been holding the reins but there does come a point where donkeys need a good kick up the ar*e to get them going in the right direction. They need to take off the blinkers and stop hiding behind the stable door while neighing “unprecedented times” at every opportunity…. heehaw, heehaw, would seem more appropriate when you consider some of the sh*t they are expecting us to swallow shovel up.

Irony really that those who are in opposition always know the answers to whatever crops up but once in power they get everything wrong. It's only Sky and the Beeb who know better than all of them.
This morning Sky and the Beeb were running around trashing the government's policy on A Level results. No mention of that when the students started opening their envelopes although, no doubt they will be hunting around to find Wayne from Wigan who should have had starred A's and has failed the lot. There was a headteacher in Northern Ireland this morning who dispassionately said that every year there were students who were disappointed and did not get the grades they were expecting and this year would be no different. No doubt there will be those who gain from the situation and those who lose but there is always the appeals process and if you are really determined sit the exam in the autumn. No pressure then.

I didn’t vote Labour at the last election because I very specifically didn’t want Corbyn as PM and his half wit cronies sitting on the front bench.
Having said that, I honestly believe that this government have been pretty useless.

I'm just boggled that anyone can be upset that we have 5,500 fewer Covid deaths than we thought.

The reality is there isn't a single consistent way of counting them within the UK, let alone world wide. One could equally criticise Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland for counting their deaths differently from England, indeed have accused them of cooking the books to keep their numbers lower.

But having reviewed the system the number crunchers have decided to adopt their approach. I don't see that's a reason to criticise the government.

As for unprecedented times, when Blair and Brown flogged the family gold and led the country to the brink of bankruptcy they blamed an unprecedented global financial crash outside their control. They can hardly moan about the language now and blame the Tories for a global pandemic where all countries have had to learn on the hoof and the WHO has been totally useless and inconsistent in its advice.

Yes we got some things wrong. But I use that word again. HINDSIGHT. The way out of this will be to pull together, not keep bleating about how to we got here.

I didn't vote Labour either, and quite honestly never would. But I don't agree with your catalogue of errors either, the media have made a meal out of everything covid related, but very few govts world wide have not had similar accusations made about their decisions, even some with "apparently" excellent outcome statistics. The one major non covid issue is Brexit and so far I am entirely in accord with their negotiating stance.

This may have been talked about I don't know as I just dip in and out occasionally with this thread. BUT, I had an interesting conversation with a member of staff at the 3 mobile store a couple of days ago. Apparently some of the 5G masts in the UK have been set fire to because some people think it is the cause of covid-19. It has caused such a concern that the staff are no longer allowed to wear tops advertising 5G in case of attacks.

Bizarre or what.

WE didn’t get anything wrong Merv.
Our Government did.
When Italy and Spain were overwhelmed in their hospitals, our advice was....... was your hands ?
Johnson was touring the country shaking hands with all and sundry then whammo, he caught covid.
While you were advised not to go out unless essential, Gatwick and Heathrow were welcoming tens of thousands from all around the world. All without even checking if they were carrying covid.
The chief advisor decided during lockdown that our rules didn’t apply to him so went up north to see his family. The icing on the cake was the 60 mile eyesight test with his kid in the car.

None of this is a complaint in hindsight.
I complained at the time, as did many others.

They have literally made it up as they went along.
We now find spikes in other European countries which should already be on the quarantine list but are not.
No hindsight required. 🤞 just fingers crossed.
