I wonder if any other over 75 dodderers on here have had their letter from the BBC demanding payment, as yet?
We have not had any correspondence since the letter saying the pause was being extended to August.

No idea but I expect they will just send you a letter to advise that your Direct Debit has been sent to your Bank for payment as of the 24th-ish of each month ufn

If they do they will be hearing from my solicitor, since I normally pay in full by credit card.

In which case your letter will advise about a payment due to your Credit Card Issuer

Not sure that they can without you authorising it. There is no DD for a TV license in my bank account (only checked yesterday over something else) so if they do then they will be in breach of banking regulations.
I have several yearly direct debits in my bank account - my tv licence has just been taken out this month - Β£157.50. My car tax and National Trust membership are the other two annual direct debits. My brother in law has had a free licence for two years and is waiting for the letter asking him to pay.
No letter here yet.
Actually husband who is 78 says he has no intention of paying.
Help !!
I would join you but I feel that we ought to pay in order to ensure the Beeb has enough money to pay Merv's pension.
Don't worry on my account. My pension is paid from a pension scheme fund into which both I and the BBC paid while I was working. You're only paying for the present oiks now.
On the other hand as an honest licence fee payer I refuse to subsidise you so if you don't pay I'll be sending the boys round.
My husband and is of the opinion that all those over 75s who had been been receiving the free TV licence should retain it. There should be a cut off time line.
All new over 75s from 1st August say will have to pay.
Gradually all those who are currently receiving free licences will diminish.
I'd agree Lindsey but sadly it's financially unsustainable, as the government knew when they dumped the cost on the BBC. It would mean huge cuts. Not just fewer big names or more repeats. It would mean the loss of whole services in both radio and TV.

Can you go to prison for not paying. Asking for a friend
I dunno, my 'friend' stopped wasting money on the BBC tax about 12 years ago and has yet to be put in prison. Does get the occasional threatening letter which is promptly put through the shredder.
Let's hope your "friend" never listens to or watches BBC output then or is happy with what amounts to theft. I presume your "friend" wouldn't go to Tesco and sneak out without paying the "Tesco tax"?
