the university/s used their own judgment on whether they gained the necessary grades.
Or maybe that they need to take as many students as possible as there will be very few, if any, profitable overseas students.
You're probably right there David but Red Brick universities generally won't be putting their academic statues at risk by allowing under achievers into their ranks... I would have thought.....Unfortunately Oxford didn't see my potential which happened to be the case with all the other places l applied for.....They must have all been using algorithms

That seems more likely.

I was and still am to an extent, not a confident person, strange considering the jobs I did.!
I joined the Army to get out of a dead end job,no regrets, had both good and bad times, it taught me discipline which I was lacking. I then went trucking for 16 yrs before becoming a Prison Offr. I was the Jails Legal Aid and Appeals Offr and also a Hostage Negotiator, I went on to the Negotiator training team in the NW.Of course I played the baddie..enjoyed every minute of my working life. I guess my point is that you can get on very well without doing well at school, it’s called application.

Well not surprising the govt have U turned over exam results and teachers grades will now apply. However that now means that the entire exam results have effectively been downgraded, no one believes that had covid not happened then there would have been a massive increase in passes over past rates.
The GCSE results could produce even more problems than A levels, with far more students achieving the standard for their higher education courses. Quite probably there will not be enough places at many colleges for all those with entry level grades.
In the long term quite likely employers will assume that applicants with covid affected grades are not equal to those not affected.

No doubt when that starts happening there will be calls to introduce legislation to outlaw "Covid Discrimination"

Just watched Victoria Derbyshire trying her best to get the Vice Chancellor of Keele University to lay the blame for the algorithm mess at the hands of Gavin Williamson, he wouldn’t go along and you could sense her disappointment,,,great, Well done that man.

Did you notice how many times "unprecedented times" came into the apologies yesterday? It appears to be the only get out clause this government has left considering the catalogue of errors it keeps making.

With the exception of a few Boris has surrounded himself with Ministers not fit for propose which begs the question whether he himself has the qualities to lead us through the next four years. I personally don't think he has and from this point on l am firmly in the camp of a change in PM....Micheal Gove fits the bill imo, a man with experience, foresight and direction which are things our Boris seems to be woefully lacking in theses 'unprecedented times' Oops!

Please forward any abusive replys to Stephen

Not that I would expect anyone to acknowledge this but OL has an uncanny success rate of predicting what could/should have happened and he/she who dismisses his rants out of sight will often be left with egg on their faces…Cluck! Cluck!

I believe (as a card carrying member ) that Boris was elected leader for one purpose only, when that is finally achieved a new leadership election will take place.

I believe that OL does as well with his predictions on this Topic as he does on the gee gees

Ergo ... if he follows his usual method of covering ' ALL ' the possibilities then one of them may indeed prove to be correct. But there again maybe not.

I totally agree screwy, although I'm not a Tory supporter.

I expected him to be out of his depth but didn't realise by how much.

I'm pretty convinced that by the middle of 2021, the plots will thicken against him.

The Tories have picked a duffer the last two times, so maybe third time lucky for them.

I think they are going to need a good leader to outflank Sir K at the next election, assuming of course that he can lose the Momentum baggage.

From an outsider's view, at the moment, their are only two candidates in the current cabinet.
The rest are a shambles.
Gavin Williamson for christ's sake ?
