Wedding Anniversary

Unread post by Holiday Planner »

Today Andrew and I celebrate our 29th Wedding anniversary. So next year's 30th seems a good excuse for a special holiday ... maybe a cruise, or maybe something else! So inspire me, and tell me how you celebrated a special anniversary!

For our 25th we cruised up the Amazon on the old Arcadia.

For our 30th, mt husband was waiting for major back surgery so we had to cancel our holiday in Australia, but we went away with friends for a few days in the UK, then did a Mediterranean cruise in a suite after his surgery.

For our 35th, last December, we did the first leg of the Queen Elizabeth World Cruise in the Queen's Grill.

Still planning our 40th - God willing!

Enjoy yours, whatever you decide to do, and Happy Anniversary!
Gill

For our 30th we had a long weekend at a nice hotel and then on the day itself we invited people to join us for afternoon tea and dinner. We had a pretty cake and champagne etc during the afternoon tea, and then for the dinner that evening there were suitable theme wedding favours and flowers on the table. Obviously 30th is 'pearl', and so everything accessory-wise was ivory/pearl. There were one or two 'family tradition' type things, and it all went quite nicely.

For our 35th however we wanted to have a cruise, and we couldn't find anything which suited to cover the actual date - so we just selected a destination and went and celebrated slightly in the wrong month - but as 35th is 'coral' the only place to go was Hawaii!

Buy a Swarovski pearl in an oyster to remember the event for ever and a day and then perhaps take a holiday to a pearl capital be it Japan, the South Pacific, Dubai or even Tennessee for the freshwater variety or even Majorca of course.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Angela, Congratulations to you and Andrew, sorry it's a couple of days late but we have been away.

For our 45th Anniversary we went on Arcadia to the Caribbean for 24 nights. We had a suite with a wonderful Butler and had a lovely time.

Love to you both and the children.

xx
Regards
Chris

I think your suggestion is really lovely MoB. When it was our 'pearl' anniversary we were so busy there was no chance of a celebratory holiday, but for our 'coral' anniversary we did manage a holiday - a cruise. The souvenir we brought home from our 'coral' cruise was a piece of coral.

Your idea is really good - but now that I'm working merrily away on a ruby anniversary I think I'll develop your concept!

Thank you for the suggestions - some lovely ideas; along with everyone else, I think MOB's suggestions are great. :P

The kinds of things I've been looking at up to now are a Panama Canal Cruise; a Baltic cruise (which wouldn't co-incide with 7th April); some of the Azamara Cruises which have a balcony upgrade deal at the moment (as I mentioned on another thread); I've also looked at the Malaga to Venice fly cruise on Ventura.
My favourie non-cruise option is The Inca Trail to Machu Pichu, which I'd love to do, but we're not sure whether Andrew's knees would hold up (old rugby injury seems to have flared up!)

I get almost as much pleasure out of the planning of a holiday as going on it! (hence my moniker), so keep the ideas coming

As your anniversary is in April, what about one of the late sectors of the World Cruise. They are COMPLETELY different from an ordinary cruise and you could get to visit some great places.

For my husband's 60th, we did Hong Kong back to Southampton, via Suez, and saw some amazing places, including Petra.

Our 30th wedding anniversary was in 2011.

We didn't get away at that time but we had two special days out.

The first was a couple of weeks before our anniversary, we had lunch on the Orient Express.

On the day of our anniversary we had a Thames River cruise on the Spirit of Chartwell. We had lunch, afternoon tea and dinner on board, with stops at Greenwich and Millbank.

The following year, the Spirit of Chartwell was used to carry the Queen during the jubilee river pageant.

Sadly they couldn't find a permanent mooring for Chartwell, and she is now in Portugal.

We had a brilliant couple of days out, so a couple of really special outings is a suggestion.

Graham, how about a cruise down the River Bourne? Mind you'd have use a vessel with a low draft as it's only few inchs deep as it comes down Bournemouth's Pleasure Gardens, and you'd have to mind your heads as it goes into the tunnel under The Square...

Angela, congratulations. My suggestion (I did this for the Lady C's millsto, er MILEstone birthday) is to fly over to New York for a couple of nights and sail back on the QM2.

Wishing you a great time, whatever you do.
