Talking of chickens ....
Mobietta was chatting to the Hedgehog Lady recently and the matter of chickens cropped ( see what I did there ) up, it transpired that she had to replace one or two of her chickens with new ‘ rescue ’ ones. At this point the highlights of the fiasco from this Topic sprung to mind so Mobietta asked if it has been a problem getting them to accept each other.
Sounding familiar so far ?
No problem at all, we simply wait until it gets dark and then pop the new one in. They all get up in the morning without any sign of anything being different to the previous day, thick as short planks is chickens the Hedgehog Lady added.
So .... chubby young ‘ Onelife ‘ how come you made a real pigs ear of adding new chickens to your collection ?

Re: Bird watching
Could be but I don't think so .... my hunch would be that it was just a lack of know how.
Imagine the scene ... a City slicker standing there looking sadly out of the window and all there is to see are cars, tiles and Tarmac. Watch a few episodes of ' Escape to the Country ' and ' Countryfile ' then wammo it's off to the rurals to pick apples, grow beans or totatoes and get in a few chickens. Job done

I think your Hedgehog lady needs to get stuffed if she thinks locking them in for the night will have them coming out the best of buddies in the morning…. did she also tell Mobietta that if she bought two bundles of lucky heather they’ll produce golden eggs as well?Manoverboard wrote: 20 Aug 2020, 08:50Talking of chickens ....

The farmer harrowed the field next to our house today after which there must have been at least one hundred, what I presume to be land gulls descend on the field…can’t think they were sea gulls this far inland.. that being said, I don’t think we have any open landfill sites around here, which is where a lot of land gulls set up camp.

Re: Bird watching
We’ve had ‘murder’ at the bottom of our garden this afternoon and there are about 300 suspects…I am of course referring to what I believe to be juvenile crows. Every day at around 2 pm they take to the sky, and quite a spectacular sight it is too. They are presently roosting in two oak trees one of which sits on the boundary of our property.
Some of you may recall that we had a resident pair of crows nesting in the oak tree this year which we watched until leaf cover obscured our view, they did however produced three baby crows as we saw then flying round together.
I’ll try and get a picture of the murder scene tomorrow

How’s this for something a little usual…. I was washing up the breakfast dishes when all of a sudden a Kestrel appeared right in front of our kitchen window, it was so close that I could hear its wings flapping against the window.
