We used to go apple scrumping crawling along the back wall of the bus depot behind the houses opposite. I think these house were allocated to valued bus company employees and their families. I don't know how we managed to get into their gardens. We had so much simple fun.

I lived in a back to back, 2 bed terrace with an outside privy and only cold water plumbing, near to a small council estate. However my council house friends with indoor plumbing and on tap hot water still considered me the posh kid, because I was always smartly turned out, and especially after I was the only kid, in our kick about football and cricket team on the Football ground car park, to pass the 11 plus.
But they were happy times when the summer holidays were always hot. dry and sunny, or at least that's how I remember them, and we played out every day with not a concern about traffic or Pervs. And I agree with most others that although we had little spare money we never felt that we were in any way deprived.
