Online Grocery Deliveries ?
With effect from tomorrow, Sunday, Sainsbugs will no longer deliver one's shopping in bags, bar meat and frozen, meaning that one needs to put out bags / boxes for the driver to tip your goodies into from their crates. Will be interesting to see how it works out but we will deffo avoid ordering any eggs.
Are Tesco, Waitrose / Ocado etc doing the same ?
We have a delivery on Tuesday so will advise the outcome but does anybody have one on Monday ?

Ocado deliver with bags. Up until the pandemic, they charged 5p a bag, but you return them for recycling and they give you the 5p back. They are not taking them back at the moment for obvious reasons, but are not charging for them.
Tesco are using hideous, I can only describe as sheets of plastic. You have to bunch up the corners and hope nothing falls out.
Not sure about Waitrose.
All supermarkets deliver on bank holiday Monday.

We had a sainsbury delivery on Thursday and they had already jumped the gun and sent it bagless apart from frozen. I had always taken the bags out of the trays myself, and so did the same with putting the items into my own bags before bringing them in from the porch.Manoverboard wrote: 29 Aug 2020, 08:30With effect from tomorrow, Sunday, Sainsbugs will no longer deliver one's shopping in bags, bar meat and frozen, meaning that one needs to put out bags / boxes for the driver to tip your goodies into from their crates. That's interesting, our drivers do not allow anybody to go anywhere near their trays / crates, they have thus far put the bags into my boxes either in the porch or in the garage if it's tipping down.towny44 wrote: 29 Aug 2020, 09:28We had a sainsbury delivery on Thursday and they had already jumped the gun and sent it bagless apart from frozen. We had our weekly Waitrose delivery today. We had booked a 9-10 slot and it arrived at 0930. The shopping is put into bags and the bags are put into crates for transport. When he arrives he carries the crates to our front door and then lifts the bags out of the crates. We then just have to pick the bags up and take them in. They used to have a flat 40p charge for a bagged delivery but now there is no charge. They will take back any used bags if you want. There is no delivery charge, just a £60 minimum order. Excellent service.

That's how it worked with Sainsbugs but they are about to change their system.BrianI wrote: 29 Aug 2020, 10:22We had our weekly Waitrose delivery today. We get a Tesco delivery every week, to date , since the start of lockdown, they have been delivering in bags. Driver puts crate in porch I take bags out. The style of their bags has varied here at least 5 different types some are their normal bags for life some much thinner. Sometimes one delivery is in mixed bags. For reuse of the bags I wish the driver would not stick the delivery label on the bag as they won't come off without tearing the bag.

I regularly order eggs in my Sainsburys order and always check them. If any of them are damaged then they refund for the product and ask you to keep them.
In all the years that we have been using Sainsburys I can only remember a handful of occasions that they have been cracked.

Re: Online Grocery Deliveries ?
Around here the only supermarket we could get a delivery from was Asda, despite being on the shielded list which was basically a waste of space. However once we found out how to get a slot it has worked well. At first Asda delivered in bags. They left the crates by the door and we just removed the bags but now the goods are loose in the crates so we empty them. Cynically the drivers say Asda are into saving the planet nowadays. You can have your goods bagged if you want but you have to pay for them. We have so many after all this time we could supply them back to Asda. We always used to shop at Morrisons but they didn't do delivery so Asda it was and I must say we rather like the quality of Asda. Some of their own brand products are very good.
I was taught to be cautious

Our local Morrisons now do. I wrote to them a while back asking why they didn't deliver and that they were missing a trick here and losing out to rival companies. I think Covid-19 was the catalyst for them to either get in on the act or dramatically lose out financially.

Just go down to the shop guys and support your local community.
We’ve never done online and never would unless seriously incapacitated.

We don't have the local/independent shops apart from butchers. There is a small (and I mean small) market twice a week but otherwise you have to go to the supermarket.barney wrote: 29 Aug 2020, 12:43Just go down to the shop guys and support your local community.

As far as is possible we do, they deliver but their stock is way short of our requirements. Having said that they are being run ragged with all the extra orders that are going their way. Their eggs are never broken by the waybarney wrote: 29 Aug 2020, 12:43Just go down to the shop guys and support your local community.

Re: Online Grocery Deliveries ?
Mrs B’s shop is in a market town called Great Torrington.
It has 51 independent shops.
Yep. 51.
There are two bakers, two butchers, two greengrocers plus a pannier market, a hardware store, numerous hairdressers, coffee shops, and few gift shops, a couple of clothes shops, a music shop and on and on.
There’s virtually nothing that isn’t available.
There is also a Co Op , a Lidl and a Spar.
The shops stepped up to the plate when covid hit and fortunately the locals have remembered that and continued to support their community.
We don’t live there but it’s certainly a great place to do business.
We still see Ocado and other supermarket vans around but generally, people seem to appreciate what they have on their doorstep.

Re: Online Grocery Deliveries ?
We also have lots of independent shops in the high street. As with many small towns parking is the issue and high charges which don't help encourage shoppers, especially when the there are large mainstream supermarkets nearby with free parking.
