Good point about parking charges.
A Torridge Councillor has proposed two hours free parking in certain car parks across the region to encourage the public to use the towns instead of out of town shopping centres.
The proposal is for October and November when the Grockles have gone back.
It’s estimated to cost about £70k in parking revenue to seen as an investment in our towns.
The two week run up to Xmas is always free anyway.
Hopefully it will be passed.
Like most councils, there will no doubt be opposition to this, usually by people who don’t use local facilities.

Quite a lot of our parking meters now take credit cards, and contactless for those who don't want to touch too many buttons. There are also ones where you can use your mobile, but since I only have a PAYG phone, I never have the data on.

I started online shopping when I was working full time and had my mother in law to look after and 2 teenage children. As soon as I filled the fridge it was like a plague of locusts had descended.

Carried on with it especially when I was ill having chemo and radiotherapy and couldnt get out. It was a godsend.

A good idea providing there is more than one meter, which now the case in a car park in Chelmsford that use to have at least two cash meters but now only one. Rediculous, especially when most people haven't a clue how to use them which causes a queue.

We do not wish to use a mobile to make any payments nor to touch buttons so the only option would be ... which is not available so we will happily stick with delivery or Waitrose's free parking click 'n' collect service

Well ... this weeks Sainsbug driver arrived on time and placed the three crates of higgledy piggledy goodies on the path in front of our porch. I had to carry them into the kitchen because he is not allowed to enter the house. A bit of forward planning was needed to avoid putting all the items on the breakfast table / work surfaces but other than that it was thankfully a non event.

I do however believe that it would make good sense to deliver using paper bags like wot the Americans can do.

Our Tesco delivery arrived yesterday and as my wife and daughter had buggered off down to Hampshire again, I was left to sort it all out .(She’s only been gone a day and I know now how much I miss her} She’d left instructions that all items needed to be wiped down and put away, which was a little bit stupid as how would I know where the things went? It must have taken me half an hour to wipe down and an hour to find where things went.

I just thank gawd they’ve found a flat as I couldn’t go through that again next week.

Sainsbugs do not allow their drivers to enter our house and we happen to believe that putting cans, plastic and packets etc into quarantine ( Bedroom 3 ) is a sensible precaution, it makes us feel as though we are doing something of value. We also remove packaging prior to putting items in the fridge but freezer items go straight in. Unlike the OLs however we no longer wipe any of our food stuffs.

Pleased for you, and even a tad envious, Barney but unlike you we are ' at risk ' so need to stick with our ‘ ott ‘ procedures for a while longer

We’re lucky to both be healthy Moby so are certainly not in any risk group.
I sympathise with those who are because life is for living not just existing.
On that subject, the mum in law’s care home have started to allow visits.
We are booked for 11.00 on Monday the 14th .
Only Mrs B allowed in. No hugs. Full ppe including gown and gloves. Still distanced. And half hour allowed.
Hardly worth the hour drive in my opinion but we’ll go.
We’ve not seen her since well before lockdown so have no idea if she will recognise anyone.
We call every week and they say the same thing every time. “She’s fine “

I’m all for moving her nearer to us but the care home say that she’ll suffer by changing her environment.
At a grand a week, they would do, wouldn’t they.

If they offer the service that people need then they will be there, but like anything if they do not offer the service then they will die - they can make all the claims they like about 'their service' and listen to their customers blowing smoke up their jacksies, but if they are not getting the trade then they are obviously not providing a service people want. It is very sad to say it but we are probably in the last throes of the high street - on the plus side it offers an opportunity for some major rethinking of how the next generation envisage their town centres - coffee shops, single use office space, residential etc. etc.

We had an Ocado delivery of mostly M & S items last night - a long overdue service. The delivery driver had our shopping bags in boxes and the transfer from our door step to inside was quick and easy. I thought they were doing away with the bags?

I too use Ocado and it's been brilliant all through the Lockdown. I also had my first order with M&S items - I was amazed at the amount of M&S stock that's now available to order with Ocado, not just foodstuffs. I understand that Ocado are starting to take back the bags that we've accumulated (huge amount) through the lockdown starting about 22nd September. The idea is that you put as many bags into one bag as you can - they say you can get 100 into one bag if you fold them up properly - and then over the next few deliveries they will take one bag each time. I haven't heard what they are doing about stopping using bags yet. I expect something will be announced in due course.

I also think that the High Street is dead but only as we know it. Lots of little cafes, restaurants and various businesses with purpose built apartments for the not so young ... is my own cunning Baldrick Master Plan.

ps ... Ocado looks brill but they don't deliver to our postcode albeit they used to with Waitrose
