Well I`m so glad this bloody spectacle is over for another year and so relieved that no horse was killed during this race, but very saddend that two horses were killed in an early race.

They weren’t killed they died doing what they are breed to do.... which is race.

With respect if we all listened to people like you horses would never have evolved into the magnificent animals they are today. In fact if they were left to evolve naturally they would hardly have grown tall enough to reach your knee cap let alone give millions the pleasure of sitting on one.

They are breed for a purpose as are the animals we eat, some end up in racing stables where they are raced, loved and cared for until such time that they can no longer race...others end up on dinner tables, some in tins to feed our pets...if I was a horse and given the choice of taking my chances over a few fences for 2 hours of my life ... or go straight to the abattoir.... I know which I would choose.

I along with the 500 millon viewers who watched this great sporting occasion will no doubt be watching this great race for many years to come....can't wait!!

Two years ago I visited the New Forrest for the first time, what a wonderful part of the country, but even more wonderful was to see horses roaming wild in the country side. These `magnificent animals` who have evolved with the help of humans, were well groomed and well looked after, but never riden.

I can assure you that I have no need whatsoever to make excuses for the sport that I and millions of others enjoy...I’m presuming you have the same view of all racing... both flat and jumps?
If however you need a reason why racing can be justified I would suggest the 20,000 full time and 70,000 part time jobs being a good enough reason.....if you’re still not convinced, how about the £3.7bn which finds its way into the UK economy... of which £325m is generated for the Exchequer.

Well groomed bit never ridden? Hmm! I think you’ll find that the only (New Forest ponies) that are "well groomed" will be those that are broken and used as child ponies...correct me if I’m wrong.

Just for your information, more New forest/Exmoor ponies will are culled every year than you’ll find horses on any of the UK race courses.
