Dignity indeed and heartly agree with your sentiments gfw. It seemed to me that the OP posted a message that was more of condolence than a political statement and therefore set the tone for this thread, which has unfortunately been hi-jacked for political points of view. At the end of the day a person has died and to treat that as an excuse to "have a go" is IMO disrespectful .

Since the lady had only just died I thought it would be taken as read that posts would not be anything but expressions of sympathy with respect to Mrs Thatcher and her family.

I do hope that there is no disruption at Mrs Thatcher's funeral, some yobs are using her death as an excuse to vandalise property and get drunk, all in the name of celebrations.

Whether you like her or not she played a massive part in reshaping Britain at the end of the last century and providing one of the longest periods of sustained growth in our history. Was she solely responsible for the downfall of our manufacturing industry; or, as is more likely, the damage was done in the seventies by the unions, low quality work force and poor management?

Sadly I believe much of peoples recollection is tainted by how they prospered under her leadership ... those that grasped and embraced the changes did well those that struggled with change and remained in the past did not do so well ... but she was often used as a scapegoat for other peoples failings, weaknesses and lack of ability.

Boris , this was the second post and was obviously not just an expression of sympathy.

Sorry, but I dot believe that anything disrespectful has been said, but surely it should be a balanced post not just a one sided view of her premiership.

When you look at the groups that have appeared on the street many of them are far to young to have lived much of their life under Thatcher and are exactly the sort of person who benefited massively from her legacy (whether that be from the wealth she generated in the country, placing Britain back at the front of the world stage of politics, or those just looking for a state handout) .. others are showing support for murderers and terrorists .. others believe they have genuine grievances.

The real irony, according to many who knew Thatcher well, is that she would probably have loved the spectacle since such empowerment and showing a bit of passion was part of what she created out of what was basically a brain dead Britain.

watching the news, it seems the funeral will take 7.5 hrs and be attended by the queem and other members of the royal family.
I sincerly hope, it passes without incident and people can respect the fact it is a funeral for a mother and grandmother

IDS has this morning responsded to critisms re the State's financial contribution towards Mrs T's funeral costs by reminding us all that she single handedly achieved a rebate from the EU to the tune of £75 Billion and still counting.
