I always record MOTD but skip through a few games that are of little interest, Burnley vs West Brom springs to mindtowny44 wrote: 11 Sep 2020, 20:06I never watch match of the day and the Beeb dont have many live matches, just a few cup games.Manoverboard wrote: 11 Sep 2020, 18:43How can you even think about not being a legal TV watcher during the footy season ?towny44 wrote: 11 Sep 2020, 15:26

I have set up my DD to pay the license, but I did make it conditional that if the Beeb ever need to top up their pension fund then they have to ensure Merv gets first dibs.

Re: The BBC
Because we had been watching Des last night, we stayed with ITV to watch the news. We both said after watching the main covid and Brexit highlights how much better informed we now felt than after watching the Beeb news. Pauline made the insightful comment that she felt that it was the more down to earth presentation that made it far more understandable.
Maybe Merv could have a quick word in the ear of the new DG?

Re: The BBC
Interesting selective reporting in the papers of BBC top salaries.
Daily Mail headline - Zoe Ball gets £1m pay rise after losing 1m listeners.
Three things. She got the pay rise when she moved to the breakfast show. It is the flagship show. It is less than Chris Evans gets after he moved Virgin and she has six times as many listeners as him.. And it is less that the editor of the Mail gets.
She has five times as many listeners as the Mail sells copies.
Her show, with the rest of the BBC chucked in, costs half what it costs to buy the Mail.
They didn't mention any of that!

Nice work if you can get it Merv.
I expect you must get about half that for spinning the discs on a Saturday morning

Not the one of them should get paid more than the Prime Minister, if I had my way things would change, oh yes.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 17 Sep 2020, 15:27Interesting selective reporting in the papers of BBC top salaries.

Re: The BBC
It has been said that the better ones could get far more by switching to other broadcasters, which might explain why the ITV news presentation was so much better.Manoverboard wrote: 17 Sep 2020, 16:02Not the one of them should get paid more than the Prime Minister, if I had my way things would change, oh yes.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 17 Sep 2020, 15:27Interesting selective reporting in the papers of BBC top salaries.

Well it certainly seems to have been for Blair, and I think Cameron seems to be raking in the money, not as sure if that dour scotsman is likely to get many after dinner engagements, except for maybe a gathering of insomniacs.Ray Scully wrote: 17 Sep 2020, 17:10Maybe being PM is just a precursor to better things.Manoverboard wrote: 17 Sep 2020, 16:02Not the one of them should get paid more than the Prime Minister, if I had my way things would change, oh yes.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 17 Sep 2020, 15:27Interesting selective reporting in the papers of BBC top salaries.
