Flu Jabs 2020

Unread post by david63 »

Yesterday I went for my flu jab and I have to admit that it was the easiest I have ever encountered.

This year our GP is not doing the jabs at the surgery but using the area designated for Covid testing - should it be needed. Normally when I go there is a queue about half a mile long and it is totally irrelevant what time your appointment is - all they check is that you are there on the correct day.

So off I go yesterday to the car part when they are doing the jabs. To my utter surprise - no queue. Got out of the car and three minutes later I had had my jab and was back in the car on my way home.

It got me thing though whether they are trialling different methods of giving flu jabs as a precursor for the Covid vaccine.

We had our jabs at the local chemists this year rather than the Doctors, primarily because they e-mailed us that they were available, but also because it's closer and parking and wheelchair access is better.
We were given a time and only waited a minute or so before it was our turn.

We have booked 5 minute slot type appointments for ours next month at a Dorset pub but we have no idea how it will work or if a swift half is possible en route to the nice lady with a needle .... :relaxed:
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Our GP is also doing them early. We had them booked for next week but have had to put that back while I sort out a separate medical issue which will involve a short hospital stay and distancing/isolation for a couple of weeks before.

Is it normal for the jabs to be given at this time of the year - I normally receive our vouchers in Nov (although now that I am on the 'list' I suspect my doctor might issue one earlier).

I think I'm going to put my flue jab off until we are back from Southampton in just over a couple of weeks time as I always go down with flu like symptoms a few weeks after. I was debating whether to have it this year due to feeling so rough afterwards but considering the current situation I guess I'll have to suffer it.

I’m glad David posted this thread as it's prompted me to get in touch with my surgery who hadn’t informed me that the flu jabs were available (they have in the past).. Anyhow, I’m now booked in for the 22nd Oct… drive through clinic.

We get mine done at the local pharmacy - much simpler even in normal times than at the Dr.

No appointments needed.
This morning we strolled in, filled in the paperwork, sat down for about 10 minutes (previous years it's been less than that), called in - and it's done.
I nipped to the greengrocer while OH had his done!

round trip of about three quarters of an hour.

while I was having mine I asked about Covid jabs and if they were likely to be given there too. The pharmacist hasn't heard yet (no surprise there....) but expects so

Just had mine done today.

I was told to attend between 9.45 and 10.30. Barely a 10 minute wait in a queue outside my GP surgery. Temperature taken at the entrance. Name and DOB taken. Jab done. From entering the surgery to leaving 30 seconds! Very slick.

Partly age which I believe is 65 and over and if you have any chronic conditions.

Pretty easy to find out barney

You can ' logon ' to your Doctor's surgery and it will reveal who, how and when one can have a Flu jab

Oh, I know that Stephen 😉
I’ve had a lucky life (so far)
I had to have one knee replaced when I was mid fifties and the good one needs sorting out as well but after the first, I’m reluctant to do the other until absolutely necessary.
I totally underestimated the operation and thought I’d be back to work within a week or so.
Luckily I worked for myself and had a couple of staff to keep things ticking over nicely but hated every minute of it.
I’m not a good patient 😁

I get the flu jab for free because I have a condition called tightarseofthewallet syndrome. I think it's a Welsh condition :D

I’d be more worried about constipation with that condition :D
