Johnson has just said the government will spare no effort but, if things don't improve, the measures could last for six months.

That is inline with what I was expecting, I just didn't expect him to announce it so soon. The rumour is that my company and several others that friends work for, are not planning a review of the 'work from home' guidance until at least second quarter next year.

Basically not much has changed other than making things mandatory and imposing heaver penalties for non compliance.

But I doubt that some of the idiots will take much notice and will carry on.

It's alright having tougher penalities but by the time they are caught and the penalty imposed the damage has been done.

After seeing photos, granted they were in the Mail, of drunken groups of girls in Manchester and Newcastle, it got me wondering whether the youth in France, Spain and Italy spend as much time and money on boozy nights ours, as ours do?

How about during this crisis the age at which you can buy alcohol is raised to 30?

They do Towny.
Not to the drinking excess that seems to go on here but they do congregate and socialise just as much.
When I lived in Spain, we often didn’t even go out to eat until ten pm.

When we were young, getting piddled was a sometime consequence.
Now it appears to be the intention.
Big difference but we shouldn’t tar them all with the same brush.

I can only speak for what I’ve seen personally and my observations are that down here, most seem to behave pretty well.
Maybe it’s because North Devon attracts a different type of young person on holiday.
Mainly young families.
I’m not doubting the pictures shown in the press. That’s a disgrace.
I wonder what those young girls think when they see themselves in the National press?
Imagine if it was your daughter?
I’d be horrified.

I was reading about wearing of a mask .... it says ;

" Face coverings do not have to be worn where it would be ''impractical'' - for instance when dining in restaurants or exercising in a gym."

I find that interesting because the first cases of Convid in Dorset were traced to a Gym.

I have been in gyms were facemasks were often seen (and that was before COVID) - apparently it increases the level of exercise ... maybe we should all try that at the gym .... I will be the one draped over the epileptic trainer gasping for air :(

There's no need for that sort of language Ken. I'm having palpitations just thinking of it :)

I personally don’t see the new Covid rules making a lot of difference which makes me question whether these rules are a small diversionary tactic to appease the tory back benchers who want to take the economic approach…if this is the case, we should be in full lockdown in two to three weeks’ time.

The covid symptoms app is estimating that there were over 11,000 infections today.

I don't get why a mask is impractical in a gym. I get it in a restaurant but if anyone struggles in a gym don't go. Seemples. I'd have thought with all those people grunting and breathing it was one of the first places you should wear one.

Good one!
That’s the same app telling us of the amount of positive Covid tests in Torridge.
For us it’s utter rubbish.

Each to their own David, I think it's still a good predictor of where hotspots occur.

Perhaps I should wear one in bed.?

I had high hopes that after screwing up the first lockdown the government were acting in a way that they might have got this one right ... but seriously ... telling bars they have to close at 10PM ... telling the public not mingle ... is that the best he could come up with.

One other point, does anybody else remember that when Johnson released the last lockdown (arguably done early to get his special advisors name out of the media, the one with vision issues that showed the general public could ignore government advice) said he would take full responsibility for a second wave? If so why is he blaming the public now (not that I disagree with him, the public have shown how stupid they are).

The pubs to close at 22:00 .... eh ... our Darzet rural pubs close ( officially ) at 22:30 .... so what's the point ?

The point is that some pubs don't close until three in the morning so maybe it's a far better idea than it would appear on the surface and especially so as the majority of the late closing pubs are sited in the hotspots.

Well done Boris ... and so say all of us ( who are shielding )

Not when its predictions are out by a factor of 10. Divide whatever you see on there by 10 and you will be somewhere near to what the actual figures are.

I suspect that this is just a "warning shot" - basically do as you are told or there will be more draconian measures put in place.

I like the way that all the pup chains are bemoaning the fact that this will harm their business as that is the busiest time of the day - just hold on a minute, you have brought this on yourselves by not enforcing the current rules.
