Personally I don't care much about Trump. What has gotten me angry is the SNP MP Margaret Ferrier's blatant disregard to the Covid 19 rules.

Getting a test then instead of isolating until she knew the result went on the train to London, attended a debate about Covid! got the positive result then instead of isolating catches a train the next day to Edinburgh and has the brass neck to say she wasn't sure what to do

I know what I'd like to do to her but I won't say it here

Great to see the police continuing to issue large fines to COVIDiots.
If they keep up this great work then maybe we can get the COVIDiots to pay for this.

This is dire. We’ve got many more cases than we thought and none of their contacts have been traced.

In normal times, somebody’s head would roll for this.

Even this report by the Beeb says that the data was passed to tracers by 1:00am on Saturday, so not a major delay, however definitely not something we want happening regularly. So let's hope lessons have been learned.

Just listening to Hilary Benn on Politices live demanding that SAGE provides the data on which decisions are made, so we can judge whether the decisions were correct.
However since so much of forecasting proved to be wildly inaccurate what would be the point?
I was also very impressed (not) that most of those on the show were world class experts on how local officials are far superior in handling track and trace, and how the current computer glitch proves the system is an absolute disaster. I wonder what they would make of P&Os IT dept?

I’m not sure it was a glitch...... they were using excel spreadsheets and the spread sheets weren’t big enough.

So, after all this money that has been thrown at Track and Trace, it looks as if they didn’t develop a data base but relied on Excel. They are probably on a par with P&O’s IT department

The symptoms app wasn't far out when it said there were far more infections than ONS data was showing.

.......

I agree Gill... another big cock up .....the birds have flown so to speak so they might just as well draw a line under this and put there resources into catching and dealing with new infections instead of trying find neaddles in a haystack.

Even if they were using Excel based spreadsheets there is no logical cellular limit, perhaps the fake news has also revealed that they are using the Microsoft's Office for Students software version. It is of course most unfortunate that follow up did not take place but if everybody sticks to the rules on social distancing in particular there shouldn't be a problem .... but we are talking Manchester here so there probably will be a knock on effect.

Some incompetent paper pusher didn't even know how to add up a column of numbers. But don't worry, lessons will be learnt ... until the next time.

Third world countries beat most of the UK into getting a track and trace system up and running (and enforcing its usage), many on shoe string budgets, but yet our government, after throwing millions at it, still can't manage it. This government has to be one of the most incompetent that we have had (pi$$-up and brewery come to mind).

I agree with Ken that it has been a bit of a shambles from the beginning with policies formed on the hoof, so to speak.

But, to put into context, the main purpose of the lockdown was to NOT overwhelm the health service.
This was clearly successful.
The fatality rate is the UK is 12th in the world given deaths per million of population and lower than other comparable European countries like Belgium and France.
Given our 'world class' health service, we would have expected better.

Individual behaviour has driven the new spike in infections.
There appears little doubt of that.
I'm not sure what can be done about that other than another total lockdown, which I don't think anybody wants.
It seems illogical to close down Kent because of a spike in Newcastle.
France is nearer that Newcastle.
